Title: Moonangel's Weight Loss and Healthy Eating Log
Post by: zena on April 07, 2015, 12:30:38 PM
I gained some weight back.  Between last fall and now, I fluctuated between gaining and losing 4 or 5 pounds, depending on if I exercise, don't exercise, eat right, or not.  A lot of things happened since I was on good track last summer that started my downhill back to gaining weight.  The last straw was my furry Keeshond getting mauled by a boxer.  I was on a run with her and after she was mauled, luckily her fur saved her from any serious bites, I decided that I can't run around the block anymore.  The boxer was actually leashed and with her owner but because the boxer was pulling hard, it snapped, and thus the attack.  That was actually the second time my dog was attacked by a boxer...yeah, boxers are very popular in our neighborhood.  I'm still considering a treadmill but again they are too expensive.  I'm not broke or anything, just trying to justify the cost, etc.  I'm also still considering a gym membership which my husband does not think it wise.

Also, I switched smartphones.  I did all my tracking of my weight and food through my phone.  Went from Samsung to iPhone and even though the iPhone does have Noom, it was different from what I was used to on the Samsung.  I tried it for about 6 months and just didn't like it and had been planning to look for a good substitute but just hadn't had the time get to it.  Well, last night I decided to look for something on the iPhone which would be similar.  I downloaded 2 apps and tried them out but they were not that great.  They didn't compare to Noom.  Noom tracks weight, calories, and exercise.  The other apps didn't track exercise and I need that.  Maybe I just don't know where to look but I searched based on popularity and the ones I downloaded was called Loose It and Fooducate.  I may have downloaded a 3rd one and deleted it 'cause it just seemed too weird.  So, I gave in and downloaded Noom again.  I started playing with it and realized it was always the one I needed.  I am just using the free Noom because that's about all I really need.

Anyway, my real problem is that I've gained some more weight in my mid section.  The love handles have grown a little.  I know some of it has to do with age (I'm turning 40 at the end of this year) and I've had a sweets craving within the last 3 months which have ceased suddenly.  I know that the sweets have added to the midsection.

Going forward, my exercise goal is to exercise daily for about half an hour with light weights (dumbbells at 5 to 10 lbs and hopefully move up to 20 lbs).  The exercise is mainly stretching and situps, squats, etc.  My daughter does a routine to flatten her tummy (she's a dancer) and she wants me to do them with her.  I've seen her do them and I don't think I am capable of those moves but I'll give it a try.  I've changed my mind about running around the neighborhood.  I'm still going to run but without my dog and maybe run two or three times a week but not every day.  Food-wise, I don't eat that much.  It's just that once in awhile I'll crave and those are dangerous times but if I keep it at a minimum then I think it'll be fine.

Overall, my goal is to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  I don't want to go crazy working out and eating healthy just to lose the weight and then gain it back once I stop working out.  So, my other purpose is to make food/search for food that I like and that I'll continue eating.  For instance, a few days ago, I made garbanzo beans/chick peas with curry sauce.  It was delicious and filled me up.  I'm going to try making curry with lentils too.

And lastly, it's my doctor's orders to exercise and eat healthy (no more white rice, bread, or sweets or alcohol...alth ough, I really don't drink at all).

Okay, so from time to time I'll try to share what I've been doing.  This morning I took a photo of myself in regular clothes just to show my size.  My goal is to lose about 30 13 lbs by May.  My caloric intake is 1200 per day.

For lunch I had brown rice with bamboo chicken stir fry and a side of thai pepper sauce with green lemon grass tea for my drink.

Here's what it looks like when I enter into Noom for breakfast and lunch.

Noom also includes snacks between breakfast, lunch, and dinner (which is nice!).  I had about a cup of cubed fresh pineapples for snack just after breakfast.

30lbs by May is a lot.  I mean a lot.  That much weight loss for your size is unhealthy.  5-15 pounds is ideal.  I lost 30lbs In 3 months.  You'll feel sluggish if you were to drop that much.  I would advise to not look at the scale.  Gotta lift weights and lift hard.  Blood, sweat, and tears.  You can do it.   O0

Sorry, I got the numbers wrong.  I can't lose 30 lbs...I'd be underweight.  I meant, I need to lose about 13 lbs. to be at normal weight for my height.  Not sure where I got 30 from...I know I needed to lose 30 lbs about 2 years ago so maybe that's what was in my head when I was typing...or maybe I meant 30 lbs total including from 2 years ago.  Anyway, you get my point.

Keep in mind, this is the info generated from Noom from the info I provide it.  I didn't make my goal up.  All I do is choose how slow or quick I want to lose the weight and Noom determines the time (month) and my caloric intake to get to where I want to be.  Yes, I will definitely try my best to lift some weights but I don't want to build too much muscle since I do have an interest in running a 2K or something.

Your calories intake is a bit on the low side. The trick to lose weight is like what brother Jason mentioned above. You have to lose it slowly, a trick I heard is scaling back on calories in take by the week(s). I.e. One week do 1,200 if you feel tired, then up it to 1,300. Once your body adjust, then drop it slowly to 1,200. Another way to lose weight is work out with the bf... I mean husband.

Losing too much weight too fast at 40 isn't healthy. Some negative impact are major hair lost and pooping cycling being off.

As mentioned to Json, I typed the wrong weightloss.  It is 13 lbs that I need to lose, not 30.  Last year and before, I went medium speed which worked out great but decided to up it this year and go fast because as I mentioned in previous posts a couple years back, I plateaued and I have stayed plateaued for some time with minor gains up or down 4/5 lbs, except now I have extra love handles.  My calorie intake actually adjusts base on my workout.  Noom also tracks my daily walk (it's not 100% accurate because I bring my phone with me when I drive) so now it has jumped from 1200 to 1400.  I try to stay within the 1200 but I'm finding that I don't even eat 1200 calories a day!  However, sometimes, I eat over 1200 and closer to 1300 but only when I'm at a gathering which is rare but does happen.  Btw, I'm not 40 yet.  Just turned 39 so I kinda want to enjoy this last year as a 30-year-oldish person.  ;D  And, I do work out with my husband.  We run and bike ride together.  :)

Not running this week though.  I am sick. Something's in my lungs and I think my body is just worn out from the 7 mile uphill hike last Friday.  But, I have been keeping up with lifting tiny weights and doing some situps and squats.

My total calorie intake yesterday was 700.  I tried to eat more but I just couldn't force myself if I'm full.

For dinner, I had a veggie delite from Subway.  It was very good.  The family goes to subway quite often and I normally get a 6 inch turkey but I think the veggie delite is going to be a new favorite.

Today's workout:

Did 15 minutes of low weights, leg stretches, and situps.  Not feeling well and just didn't have the energy.

Food:

Breakfast: Quaker oatmeal

700 calories intake is like 2.5 slices if pizza... That's no good, you are starving your body.

LOL!  Yeah, however, I don't tend to eat much when I'm under the weather.  I should get back to my normal eating self in a few days here....hopefu lly sooner.  :)

Hello and nyob zoo, Moon Angel.  I think it's quite the awakening when someone wants to take better care of themselves and their health by focusing on exercise and better eating.

You don't have to eat logs though.  I doubt they're very nutritious anyways and I'm not sure how people would cook them.

700 calories in day is not healthy.  You'll lose weight and it'll be muscle mass too.  Catabolic.

The photo was taken July 2013 on the Carnival Cruise.  A wonderful vacation that went by too fast but that I couldn't wait to come home either...LOL.  I had worked really hard three months earlier to lose 12 lbs and to fit in that cute dress.

When I returned home, I lost an extra 7 lbs and remained that weight until the holidays of 2013...LOL.  Then, I gained back 3 lbs and since then, have been at my current weight.  But, I realized that because of family illnesses and such, not to mention, the incident with my dog, I binged on sweets and the ugliest love handles sprouted.  They've always been difficult to get rid of.  Moving forward, I'm going to substitute fruits in place of sweets.  I know too much fruit isn't good but it's way better than eating my all time go to homemade apple pie with two heaping spoons of French vanilla ice-cream.

I'm back on track today.  :)

You look great. You can do it. I'm starting mine and it's hard but lifting weights I noticed a difference in one week. Cardio is fun but sometimes it's hard for us beginner. Right now I do about 20 minutes. Once I build my endurance and strength, I can further do more.

Oh by the way, I do not track my calories intake. We hmong food is hard because it's not on there. So I portion size control and it's going well. Jason post in FYI is really good.

Keep us updated.

Thanks, MissKoua85.  I also do 20 minutes cardio via running.  Have been religious at it until last December when the incident with my dog stopped me all together.  But, I've ran with my husband a couple of weeks ago and miss it.  I've actually lifted my small weights until they felt like nothing so I'm in the process of moving up to heavier ones.  That's a good way to go about it...portion size, if you can't track.  I have to track my calories and guestimate the calories if there is no pre-entered food type.  For me personally, the app is the number one thing that keeps me motivated. Second is blogging about it.  Third is posting photos so I can look back and remember to keep going.  :)

You look just fine in your pix... Why kill ya self to lose a few  pounds.

Some people as they get older, gain weight in their butts, some in their tummy.  I'm gaining weight in my tummy, so even if my arms, legs, and butts are small, my tummy isn't.  It's where most of my extra weight is.

...and I'm not killing myself in losing a few lbs.  These are serious lbs the doc recommend I lose.  It ties to future heart problems and diabetes.  :)

Update from yesterday.  Here is the total calorie intake:

For dinner, I only had the small chicken wing..but that was still a ton of calories.  Of course, had it with some corn, mashed potato and gravy and Hmong hot sauce + a few bites of wheat french bread.

Late night snack I had one small New York Crunchy Lobster sushi...OMG... soooooooo delicious, and half a mango.  Shared the other half with my daughter.

BREAKFAST THIS MORNING:

I had an over easy egg cooked in a tsp olive oil over half a sliced avocado over toasted wheat french bread.  Drank it down with a wild berry tea.

WORKOUT THIS MORNING:

Half hour of body stretching including, situps, squats, light weights, and jumping jacks.  My 8-year-old taught me a thing or two on how to stretch correctly and some ballet moves. Now I know how to plie!

I've been really sick so haven't had time to workout out or eat right.  Yesterday, I only ate 674 calories out of 1,213 calories.  Not sure how I will fair today but I maybe not be eating very much either.  Just craving fruits and nothing else much.  It's no fun being sick.

Still pretty sick.  It's snowing out.  Not a great day but managing thru it.

Have lost 4 lbs total since last week but not the right way.

Ate a small apple for breakfast this morning.  It was hard to finish.  I just don't have my appetite right now.  Not sure what to eat for lunch.  Maybe an over easy egg with a slice of French bread or a frozen Michelina meal.  I guess it really depends on if I have the energy to make the food or just throw something in the microwave.

I've just been sick these past few weeks and have no energy to do anything.  Sleeping in and pretty much just resting my body has helped immensely.  Tai chi and yoga sounds fun though.  I'll have to look into it once I'm better. Thanks.

I've got so many excuses as to why I'm not working out and eating junk food.

I'm not gaining weight but just going back and forth with love handles.  They were starting to go away but came back.  Aside from being sick and lethargic with a cough that lasted for almost two months, husband made banana pudding and I've been craving Twinkies + had cake at my parents over the weekend (how strange that I've started liking cake when during my 20's and early 30's the sight of it made me tickley).  Not to mention this cloudy and raining weather we've had all month.  There were only 2 days this month that the sun tried to peak through, otherwise, it remained cloudy with rain, and we had a snow blizzard to add to that.

With the nice weather we're finally getting, I went for a half hour bike ride with husband.  He ran.  His hip isn't hurting anymore so he's on track to run a marathon.  Really excited for him.

Anyway, got new weights!  They are heavy but I'm excited to start using them!

For breakfast this morning had coffee and a whole Twinkie.   :-[

My goal this weak was to eliminate sweets, bread, and white rice.  Fail.

I think I know why.  I'm stressed.  Stress usually makes me crave food and lots of sweets.

Yesterday's lunch: Deli Cajun Turkey meat, Havarti cheese, and french baguette with thin pretzels and hummus.  Drank it down with Sprite.  I know soda's not good but I was craving it.

Went for another half hour bike ride while husband ran.

I even put my bike away all by myself.  Pretty heavy stuff! The top bike is husband's.

Not feeling well today.  I'm pretty sore too from yesterday's bike ride.  And, the weather is gloomy.

Made this for lunch yesterday: sausage with cabbage.  I try not to eat white rice but sometimes brown rice tastes like cardboard.  I try to limit myself to about 1/4 c to 1/2 c of white rice a day.  Sometimes I'll even eat my dish w/o rice.

I've been lazy tracking my progress.  There's just so much going on...but it's because I'm a parent and my kids are my priority.  AND, I'm not really feeling NOOM the way I used to.  I like how it tracks my weight and food but it doesn't allow me to track my workouts the way it used to.  Now instead of tracking as I do the workout, I have enter how much time I've worked out.  It's not as accurate that way.

Made spaghetti with meat sauce for the kids and set aside a bit of the meat sauce with zucchini as my "pasta" instead of regular noodles.  It was so delicious!  I'm going to have to do this more often.  Regular pasta is just so high in carbs and sugar and it all goes to my tummy.  The zucchini is perfect because I need more veggies in my life.  Of course, I made most of the spaghetti with regular pasta, only sampled the zucchini to see if I'd like it, and now I've got lots of left over regular spaghetti that I'm actually eating most of because no one likes left overs.

You only love once... Enjoy life a little. Stop looking in the mirror. Working out only works when you reap the results down the road.

Believe me, I wouldn't worry so much if my doctors didn't tell me to get healthy.  I want to be able to see my kids grow into adults.  O0

How much do you weight? Last time, you told us you were planning to lose 5-10 pounds. It doesn't sound like a obese person. Anyhow, woman always outlive the man. So, don't worry about that part.

You don't have to be an obese person to want to lose some weight.

I personally want to just get to a healthy weight.  I'm not obese but am above my BMI. Just losing 3 lbs would be a big difference so 7 to 10 lbs would be a giant difference but still not enough for me to be stick skinny.

Have you tried drinking tea to help with your weight loss?  Most teas are beneficial in reducing cholesterol as well as suppressing appetite.  What I do is eat a small breakfast in the morning to start the metabolism.  I brew a thermos full of tea and I take it to work and drink it throughout the day.  I feel I am less hungry because it fills my stomach.  When I come home I'm not hungry, but I usually eat some fresh vegetables along with either chicken or fish.  I might have a small portion of rice.  I exercise (running and lifting weights) once in the morning for 1 hour and once in the evening for 1 hour.  I've been losing about 3 pounds a week.

It's good your schedule works for you.  I think that's the goal: to find something that works and be consistent with it.  That's my hardest problem because I like variety and have always enjoyed variety.  Changing it would be like getting rid of my arm or something.

As for teas, I drink them daily.  There are periods where I only drink tea and don't eat very much but I tend to only remain at my weight and not fluctuate as much when I do that.  Then, there are periods where I have to have my junk food fill.  I try to substitute with healthier stuff like veggies and fruits but when it doesn't hit the spot, I get really irritated until I have that hamburger.  It's weird.  It doesn't happen often but I know when it happens so I allow myself a hamburger or whatever junk food I'm craving just to get over that hill.  There's gotta be a way to work that out but I can't seem to find it.

Right now, I'm going through a weirdness.  I can't stand white rice.  Not sure how long that will last but I haven't eaten it for a couple of days now and I don't seem to care for it for the moment.  We'll see how long that lasts.  I am eating French bread though but sparingly because I'm also not in the mood for bread of any kind.  I did make myself two s'mores earlier today though.  Not good but it's been like 10 years since I've had s'mores and it will probably be my last, although I have to admit, I will be eating the graham crackers and maybe chocolates separately throughout the next weeks.

Sweets, especially chocolate, are my weakness. I'm like you where at times I have to fill that craving. Just the other night I was up at midnight bbq a steak. Although I fall into the temptations, they are far and few. Plus when I do eat the unhealthy, it's in small portion.

Good luck with your journey. :)

So I actually gained about 3 lbs that I now need to lose on top the 10 lbs I still need to lose.  I'm not exactly sure how that happened but I think it's because I haven't been exercising...h ave been sick (pain-wise) and it's been coming and going to I can't even ride my bike until I'm back to good health.  If I do exercise and ignore the pain, it will only make it worse, and I don't really want to go see my doctor twice a month for meds.  I'm trying to eat healthy but for some reason the food I'm around is junk.  Yesterday had a hotdog.  Tried to avoid but went to an open house and thought maybe they'd have healthy stuff (they had grapes) but the rest were junk food.  I also had a Chipotle naked burrito for lunch with my sister.  I wasn't too hungry but figured it would hold me over until the open house.  It's always hard to eat healthy when I'm out and about.  At home I have better choices.  Like this morning, I had one scrambled egged with a side of lightly stir-fried zucchini in olive oil.

Last week made zucchini pasta with turkey marinara.  Not as great as with meat sauce so probably wont' try again with turkey.  Side of roasted asparagus and French bread.

Over the weekend I made tabbouleh with quinoa.  I found the recipe through Pinterest which took me to LuLuLemon's sister site or something, in which this recipe was posted. This was my first time making tabbouleh, and with quinoa, and it tasted so delicious! (I love tabbouleh and have had it before but with bulgur).  I tried quinoa once before but it was a prepackaged flavored one where I simply needed to microwave which ended tasting like cardboard and kept me away from it for a long time.  Making the seeds from scratch tastes so much better!  Quinoa has a nutty taste and a nice aroma to it.

I've always been looking for a substitute for white rice and tried brown rice but brown rice just doesn't taste very good and it hurts my stomach.  It makes me feel heavy.  Quinoa is so light and healthy.  After I eat quinoa, I feel good, light, and my stomach doesn't feel hard or hurt.  I did some research and there's just so many good stuff to say about this seed.  I researched a few online sites and they pretty much all say the same thing, which is:

1. Contains All Amino Acids
2. High in Fiber
3. High in Iron
4. High in Magnesium
5. High in Riboflavin
6. Rich in Manganese
7. Contains Lysine
8. Has Antiseptic Properties
9. Supports a Gluten-Free Diet
10. Low on the Glycemic Index
11. Contains Flavonoids
12. Helps You Avoid Getting Fat
13. Good Source of B Vitamins
14. Potentially Anti-Inflammatory <---this could help me with my sickness issues.  I actually feel a lot better, although I've just started eating quinoa so we'll see.  It's crazy but it seriously does seem to be helping.
15. Helps Lower Cholesterol (YES!!!!!)
16. Helps Lower Blood Pressure (YES!!!!)
17. Helps Balance Blood Sugar Levels
18. Supports Weight Loss Efforts

Ref: bembu.com/quinoa-benefits

Quinoa is easy and quick to make and you can eat it plain or add whatever you want for flavor.  I like it tabbouleh style because it gives it a fresh herb-y taste which I can't get enough of.  I will probably never eat white rice again.  I 'll just have to remember to make some to take with me to family gatherings and such.

I mentioned earlier that I was going to make fish tacos.  Well, I made it yesterday and it was delicious.  Was also very easy and quick to make.

Then, for dinner, I just had the fish, slaw, and avocado with quinoa tabbouleh.  I prefer this way to the corn tortilla.  I'll be making more of this dish in the future, both with the tortilla and quinoa.

It feels good to get on the scale and know that a couple of years ago I was 5 lbs heavier.  Just need to stay positive and motivated.  Last night I was watching YTs on raw vegan and I'll never go raw completely or vegan ever but I'm going to incorporate a raw vegan dish at least once a week in my meals.

So I went to buy Peach Passion tea and they didn't have it.  I was bummed but I did find a different brand of peach tea + there was a sale so I got a few more teas.  Rooibos tea is one of my other favorites.  I did some research and learned that this tea is actually very health beneficial:

Its medicinal attributes have been confirmed by The US Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC, which has affirmed that red rooibos tea is capable of reducing cancer, heart disease, premature aging and other serious conditions. Ref here (https://www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/beverage/health-benefits-of-red-rooibos-tea.html).

And, these are all my teas:

I never like tea or maybe it is because I haven't found the right one with good blend of flavor.  I trashed all teas and coffees in the cabinet.  Right now it's too hot for tea in the summer.  What about tea that are chilled that is good?  I might have to try Starbucks chilled tea once.

I know what you mean.  I am picky with my teas but I also like trying new teas.  If I don't like them, I throw them away too.  It took awhile for me to find the ones I really like.  It makes it easier to shop for tea when you know what you like.  For instance, the Ginger Peach Tea by The Republic of Tea isn't as great as the peach tea by Zhena's.  But, it was good iced though so that's how I've been drinking that one. I put a little bit of honey in it...more than I normally do because it's a bit bitter.  Zhena's Peach Tea wasn't bitter.  Also, I like Rooibos tea just by itself (pure).  I've had it blended with other spices and it wasn't all that great.

Starbucks teas are pretty good.  My fav is the peach mint tea.  Right now though I've been getting the iced chai latte.

I took my daughter and her friend to Sno Crave for ice cream.  I had their hot green tea and it was good.  I finished the whole pot because I was not going to waste $5 and $12 for ice cream.  Look up their website and menu but look like it based in CA.  I might go another time and taste the other hot tea flavor.

I don't brew tea at home and just tea bag.  I'm not sure if I have too much hot water that it lose flavor or just doesn't taste right.  Every time I order tea there is not a time where I would throw it away.  We don't have a lot of store here in this small town.  Target and Walmart selection is what I get but sometime I want to try other but it's not carried.  I don't know about nutrition or supplement store like GNC if they have tea or not.

I think I had green tea ice cream at a restaurant once a long time ago.  But, it sounds like you got a ton of it...that's a lot for ice cream.  I'm glad you liked it.

As for steeping, put a tea bag in 8 oz of hot water and steep for a couple to three minutes.  If you use loose leaf, use about 1 tablespoon to 2 (in a sieve or strainer...or without one...I do that sometimes).  If you want it stronger use more leaves, but don't steep it any longer than a few minutes otherwise it will be bitter.

I went to Ross and came across some tea but brand I've never heard of...... I was in a rush because it was out of town so didn't pick among a few to test out.  I might do it tonight at our local Ross if I can find any because just the flavor of it draw my attention vs. what I've seen at regular store.

I'm going to try if I can drink tea daily vs. coffee even though I have stop but pretty soon when the kids are returning back to school it will be coffee here and there to keep awake.

Did you get the tea at Ross?  What did you think?

I love your fish meal. Looks so delicious. How do you cook your fish and quinoa?

I love tea!! Growing up my mom give us Asian tea from backyard so I'm used to drinking bitter, sweet or plain tea. I ca drink about any kind. I absolutely love this flower tea at a tea place. Will get more.

Thanks!  The fish was cooked on a stove top grill.  It can also be done on an outdoor grill but I don't know how to use mine.  I used cod and rubbed it with cumin, paprika and a little salt, then cooked for about 8 minutes on each side.  The quinoa, I rinse one cup of quinoa then boil it with 2 cups of water.  As soon as it starts to boil, I reduce heat and let it simmer for 12 minutes.

I may have tried the flower tea at an acquaintance home.  It's a dried up flower where water is added to release the taste and aroma.  They had a glass tea kettle so it very pretty to look at while we poured the tea into our cups.

Not the best photo but working out on the treadmill.  I've been so sore these last few days from a combo of stretching, biking, and treadmilling.  It feels good though.

Made myself sick by working out too much.  For me, 1 hour of working out (30 mins cardio + 30 weights/stretching) is way too much.  I was extremely sore last night and had to take a painkiller for the sore muscles because I could barely walk or move.  Then, went to bed like at 7pm because I was so weak and sick.  Feeling better today.  Still sore but manageable.  Didn't do any cardio or weight/stretching today.  Needed a break.

Made a Labenese dinner the other day.  It was delicious and healthy.  It was also my first time using cardamom.  Cardamom has such a pretty scent to it.

Health benefits of cardamom:

* Anti-Carcinogenic Properties
* Good for Cardiovascular Health
* Control of Cholesterol
* Anti-Depressant
* Treating Urinary Disorders
* Protection Against Gastrointestin al Diseases
* Antimicrobial Properties

* Aphrodisiac Properties
* Sore Throat

* Breath Freshener

Ref (https://www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/herbs-and-spices/health-benefits-of-cardamom.html).

It was also my first time making tabbouleh with bulgur.  I actually prefer tabbouleh with bulgur than with quinoa or couscous.  I like the texture and flavor of bulgur.

* Anti-Inflammatory Effects
* Reduced Risk of Type 2 Diabetes
* Reduced Risk of Metabolic Syndrome
* Relieves Constipation and Clears the Digestive Tract

The problem with being creative with food is that I sometimes tend to make sweet treats such as this apple pie.  Bought a large thingy of apples from Costco and didn't want it to go t waste.  I had spices on hand already.  Pie crust was cheap.  I think it was about $2 at Target.  This pie was so easy to put together and it took no time at all too.  It was so delicious with vanilla ice cream, which I also had on hand!  How unfair!

I made the pie last night and have lots of leftovers so I'm pretty sure I'm going to get myself another large slice with ice cream again.  This is my weakness.

For lunch today I had leftover Tabbouleh (from a couple of days ago), boiled spinach (made today), and chicken laab and brown rice made yesterday for dinner.  Two salads!  I should be proud of myself.  I wasn't sure if the tabbouleh would go well with the chicken laab but it actually turned out pretty tasty.  I think one of these days I'm going to make bulgur laab and see how that tastes like.

I drank lunch down with some teas from Target.  I had the Jasmine tea yesterday and it was calming and relaxing.  The Hot Cinnamon Sunset tea is amazing.  It goes perfect with the fall weather.  Don't get me wrong, I also had a large glass of water with my meal.

This morning I worked out for 15 mins again.  My days are just so busy that I try to wake up before the kids and do my workout but then I'm always short on time.  After my 15 mins of workout, I only have 25 to 30 mins to get ready before I have to drop daughter at school.  I normally need at least 30 minutes to shower and groom.  If I wash my hair, that's a little extra time in the shower.  Then blow drying takes another 5 to 10 mins.

I used to workout for about 30 mins to 1 hour after I drop off my daughter but that shortens my day immensely and I end up falling behind on everything else that I need to do. No worries though.  I'm going to keep trying different methods until I find one that will work perfect.

I realize that scheduling my workout is really harder than it seems so what I've come to is that if I get up early, then I'll run first. If not, then I'll run after I drop off my daughter.  :)

Still working on it.  Have been running almost everyday doing what I can + biking on days I'm not running. Foodwise, it's hard.  There are days when I'm doing well then there are days when I just eat junk.

btw, I'm back on Vitamin D.  I've added B12 as well.  Still going good with Niacin (B3) and HPB meds.  All doc's order.  I'm actually starting to feel less sluggish and more motivated.  :)

I think that's a really great idea that you're doing! Just curious, why do you think you'll never go completely raw/vegan? I would've never thought I could go vegan too.. but 5 years later.. I still am.  :)

Also, I'm always in a rush in the morning so I drink a smoothie. It satiates me and provides a lot of my nutrients for the day. You don't have to take my word for it. You can read all the 4,000+ reviews on amazon.  (http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-Organic-Vanilla-Packaging/dp/B007S6Y74O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446055410&sr=8-1&keywords=garden+of+life+meal+replacement)

Thanks, but I've fallen off the wagon.  Life got in the way.  As for being vegan, I don't want to because I love food.  But, I don't mind throwing in vegan dishes here and there.  I like mixing variety in my food.

Thanks for the shake/smoothie info.  I'm not a shake/smoothie person because they tend to have that sour and/or banana flavor and slimy texture that I can't stand.  My family loves Jamba Juice but I don't like any of their stuff.  Over the summer though they offered a limited time coconut refresher that tasted like a non-alcoholic margarita and that was the only thing I could have.  I'm still working on getting a new blender (have an old one somewhere in storage that I rarely used) but it hasn't been a priority because I get the feeling that I won't be using it as often as I'd like.  Also, I don't like adding powder to anything.  I used to work at GNC and all their powder stuff flew off the shelf.  Customers would ask me for recommendation s so I had to learn about the different kinds of powders as well as the vitamins and other supplements.  I never got into the powders but I did start on the flaxseed and primrose oil, etc.  It was okay until my stomach refused the primrose. It would hurt every time I took it so I stopped and the flaxseed flavor was just too strong to have with my salad and/or drinks anymore.

I'm glad you've kept up being vegan.  That takes dedication and giving up comfort food.

Because of last night's snowstorm the kids' schools are closed so I was able to get a ton of treadmill work in!!!  I'm so proud of myself for hitting 500 calories.  I actually burned a little more than 500 'cause I did some light weights and stretching (includes running in place and jumping jacks) afterwards.  My 8-year-old takes a strength and stretch class at her dance school and she was working me.  She tells me my goal is to get all 3 splits in: right side, left side, and straight down.  Oh boy.

The treadmill broke down completely.  Husband tried to fix it but whatever he fixed, that wasn't the issue.  Not sure what it is but told him not to do anything else on it.  We only paid $80 or so for it so I'm not worried over it.  Just that now I'm not able to run my usual runs.  I now run outdoor but only with husband.  He runs fast and he runs far and I run slow and I can only run a mile or two so I'm actually a burden on him when he runs...LOL.  :'(

Why don't you run by yourself. Also incorporate some weight training to your work out. You'll be so surprised when you do your cardio at how much better your performance is. The strength training program I'm using is http://www.building-muscle101.com/5_dayworkout.html (http://www.building-muscle101.com/5_dayworkout.html).

Make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing to show you proper form. Don't want to hurt yourself :).

I've had some bad experiences running alone (attacked by boxers...they are popular here) and I won't run alone alone 'cause I'm a small person and don't trust being out by myself no matter how safe it is.  I know how it is to do cardio. I love it.  I used to run a lot with my dog.  I also do very light weights and bike.  Used to swim more but haven't found a good pool for many years.

Those are great routines in the link.  I don't even know what half those workouts look like so I'll have to look further into them.  It sounds like they are to build muscles but I don't think I'm quite there yet.  I need to lose a bit more weight...like between 7 to 10 lbs. I've been fluctuating a lot.

Thanks for the info.

Feels like forever since I've posted photos...

Talked about Old Navy clothes fitting me too tight in the chest area in a different topic.  Went there last month or so and here's some stuff I tried out.  The red shirt, didn't buy, although I really loved the color, fabric, design, and price.

Tried to eat chicken laab with lettuce.  This was a great way to not eat white rice and it was tasteful...alt hough I did eat the leftovers later on with a bit of rice.  I guess I'm just so used to it that way.

I know this isn't the best for healthy eating for breakfast but Kneader's makes the best French toasts in the world!  Soooo delicious.  They currently have an all you can eat 'cause they just opened across the street from our house but they are so thick that I could barely finish one slice.  I'll have to keep this at a minimum, otherwise all my hard work working out will just go to waste.

Went to Tokyo Joe's over the weekend and had my usual steak with veggies and brown rice.  This meal fills me up for the whole day.

I'm glad you had a chance to look at the list I posted. And yeah, don't go running alone where you live, scary.

About the weight lifting you actually cannot bulk up muscle even if you tried really hard to. Women's bodies aren't built that way, we don't have enough testosterone to build muscles, doing weights will only make you look slimmer, and help you meet your weight goals faster because muscle uses more energy from foods than fat does so in order for you to keep weight on, you'd have to eat much more.

If I could post up pictures of my progress I would but I can't right now because of my job. But I've been on that routine for 3-4 weeks now and people tell me I look a lot thinner. I actually lost 6 lbs last week (my friend suggested that I take weight loss pills). The one I take is called BURN XS by BPI but you need to drink A LOT of water.

And by the way, I am surrounded by military guys and girls so that's all we do... work out when we're bored.

Why would you ever take weight loss pills?  If you are lifting weights, aren't you already below or at your BMI weight?  And aren't all military people fit?

A few years ago, I used Noom to track my running.  For some reason when I had that fallout with them and then downloaded it again, the tracking was removed.  Husband has been Nike+ and recommended it to me so I downloaded it a couple of days ago and began tracking again.  I so needed this 'cause other fitness/running apps just weren't doing it.  Nike+ isn't so bad.

I was extremely motivated this morning to run so I had husband run (he jogged) with me.  I want to be able to run at least 3 miles without stopping.  I want to get ready for my first 5K run (maybe it's my second 'cause I ran over a decade ago).  I also have goals for my first 14-er and I don't want to get winded so easily.  I've been working myself almost to tears so if I ruin it eating junk food, I'm going to be so angry at myself.

And, although, I lost weight in my thighs and arms and shoulders and boobs, I still have a huge love handle and it has grown within the last couple of weeks due to drinking soda and eating cake and rice.  I know it's not good for me and I know it was because I had anxiety with my kids being out of school and having a new schedule due to it, but I really have to work harder at not resorting to food when the schedule changes drastically.

Anyway, I'm really excited though.  I'm going to work at this and pull through.  I need to do this.  Here's my tracking from this morning:

Here's a photo of my back side but you can see the fat wrinkle on my tummy.  That's the love handle.  This is hardest to get rid off.  I know for a fact that it's hereditary but I also know that I can overcome it by eating healthy.  Don't judge.  What I would like is inspiration and motivation so that I can loose my tummy and tone the rest of my parts.

You would think right? It's just a misconception. Just like not all cops are good but that's beside the point. Different people have different body types. Even the most healthy people fail their BMI. It's not a perfect system if you're too short or too muscular. I've seen it happen to a lot of people before. I even failed one of my weigh-in's. My Senior Chief was the one who weighed me in and his comment was, "Your problem is that you're too damn short." Lol.

I started lifting again at the end of May because I gained 20 lb's over a 4 month period--the most in my life. It's hard for most people to understand but with the military deployment schedule, life is hectic, and you can never settle in to a routine.

Seven-eight months of the year we eat prison food. So after coming back to land how can you not get happy seeing real food? Even McDonald's seem like luxury food and I don't eat fast food. Story of my life. Right now they're serving hard chicken breast, undercooked rice, and half rotting lettuce. The vending machines aren't much better either--soda, candy bars, chips, all stuff I can't eat... I've been skipping the lunch lines and eating protein bars, drinks, multivitamins and water.

As for the pill, I'm using the weight loss pill to kick start my workout routine. I normally don't take it and don't advise it but for my strategy of faster gains I'm okay with the idea. Once the pills are out I'm done with it. It's working for the purpose of what I wanted.

99% of the times I do my research and listen to my body, I think that's the most important factor whether you know things are working out or not.

I would not walk or run alone out there being petite.  I do in my new neighborhood as it is more open.

I can just step out of my home and walk across the street.

Walk around this storm pump across the street in circles.  This is dead end street and if you don't live in either 2 street then most likely you won't drive into this location/neighborhood.  It is still farm land behind the storm pump.

You might see people dirt bike riding.  This is the 1st time they ever they cleaned and smooth it out otherwise it will just be all weed.

Circle is big enough to run or walk.  I would do maybe 3x.

Bike/walk path which go all the way to my old neighbhorhood/home if going west route.  If going east route then it will go all the way to the new hospital.  I use this path/route if I want to do at least 1 hr of walking.  City college is just across the street which we can run on their track, play tennis, etc.  I haven't not use it.  My kids and neighborhood kids sometime would bug to take them riding around the college so husband and I take them since there is always 5-7 of them.  Neighborhood kids can be annoying because they know I don't work and is more free to do stuff that they would asked to go to the park, bike riding, lake, etc.  One thing I hate to be responsible for kids.

The next 2 blocks across the street is empty home lot.  I take my kids there for practicing riding bike and walk around it 4x if it is late evening.

I go walking I bring a mace/pepper spray.  I always run into the same familiar face so it hasn't become a problem and most will know to keep their dog on a leash......... .  I don't like to walk or jog on main street for people driving by and seeing you.  I feel where I am is good enough to step out and have many choices.

I get criticized and look by people like something because they think I'm fine or fit and why do I need to be out there walking.  I have to tell them just because I look fine and normal does not mean that I have no health issue.  I have my own concerns and testing can be up or down, etc.  One thing is that I'm never on the big size but I exercise to see if there is change in my bp, change the way I eat, etc.  When I tried it doesn't change much I go back to my old way.

I would love to have a little more meat on my butt just to wear pant vs a flat butt.

I understand the misconception.  Yeah, I get that it's not the BMI is not a perfect system it it's pretty close otherwise what's really the point of having it?  Once other systems come into place (become popular) then maybe they will get rid of it.  Your Senior Chief is funny and perfectly honest and that's good.

I totally get you!  I don't even have to be in the military and I eat junk food.  Usually after weeks of eating healthy stuff only I get the cravings and then I give in and eat the junk food like crazy and gain the weight all back.

Thanks for sharing your photos, SB.  I would be scared to run alone in your neighborhood too.  Just to clear up any misunderstandi ng, it's not that my neighborhood isn't safe, it's that I am just too careful.  I don't think you can get any safer than my neighborhood.  Of course as mentioned in another post, they are building all around here so it might not be the safest for long.  This suburb used to border rural (a five minute drive east and it's complete farmland) but a lot of the farms have been sold to the builders and will be houses in the next few years.

I'm glad you bring pepper spray, I do that when I go hiking in the mountains, but not when I run or bike.  I guess I can bring some along but I don't think there's enough time for me to unzip my pack and bring it out before an attack.  Our main streets are quiet still.  When we first moved here the big streets were so empty it was almost like a ghost town but with the influx of people, it's a little busier.  If I got attacked by a loose dog, no one will see 'cause it's usually not busy when I run.

Yesterday, the family went to Manitou Springs to try The Incline.  It's a one mile stairs straight up to the summit.  It's harder than it looks.  We didn't finish 'cause a storm was coming in but husband and older daughter made it halfway.  Myself and younger daughter were so close to halfway.  Next time, we will summit.  It's a definite bucketlist now.

Btw, I can't do any workouts today 'cause I'm sick and I got sick from over working my body.  I'm so upset I could cry.  I have to go at least 10 days without any sort of working out until my body returns to normal.  I have inflammation of the skin (which is very painful) when I over exert myself and have to take Prednisone for it.  If you are not aware, Prednisone is a prescription steriod that is taken tapered, for sample: start with 5 one day, then 4 the next day, then 3 the day, then 2 the next day, then 1 on the last day.  I have to wait until I am completely done with the cycle and I normally start with two days of 5 pills then two days of 4 pills and so on until I finish, thus the 10 days.  The inflammation has to be completely gone before I can do any extraneous exercise like running, biking, squats, etc.  If I don't wait and just start working out while I'm trying to heal, I will only extend the pain and have to be on Prednisone for a much longer period.

Happens all the time when I over do it and it's hard to really tell when I over do it.  I try to hit it just right before I get to the point where I can feel that I've overdone it but it's so hard to hit it right on target.

I wish I could just work myself out and not have to worry about this illness.  :(

Tried swimming?  It's suppose to be a really good full body workout that's low impact.

I know for a while I was swimming, itbalso helped out my cardio for running.

Try it out, ID swim now but believe it or not in actually can't swim.

I love swimming but unfortunately, when I have a flare up like this, I can't get in the pool.  Also, I don't go swimming very often anymore because the chlorine in the water causes my inflammation as well.  Imagine having a huge fresh deep cut down your leg and getting into a pool or trying to run or bike or even walk.  It feels like that.

After doing The Incline, I am paying for that too.  My calves were so sore I could barely move my leg...this is on top of my inflammation flare up.  The Prednisone is not for the soreness ('cause it does not work on it).  Husband had me use his leg/thigh roller (it's the orange skinny thingy in the photo) and it has helped tremendously.  I used it this morning because right when I got out of bed, I couldn't move my calves so I grabbed for the thingy and rubbed the soreness a bit and I can move it and walk fine.

So these are the tools I use when I run and do muscle toning.  The silver and black dumbbells are 5 lbs each and the orange one is 10 lbs each.  I'm ready to upgrade to 15 lbs and maybe even 20 lbs! I use the large black foam roller all over my leg.  It's a bit hard to use 'cause I need arm strength to hold my body while I role on it so I can only do so much at a time but it feels great afterwards.

And, I am proud of myself for almost hitting 10 miles within 2 weeks.  I would have hit it by now if it wasn't for what I'm going through at the moment.  I can still try to stay positive though and be glad that at least I got some running in. The blurred out "friend" is my husband.  He's doing great!

I run and bike in the morning so that in the evening, I can walk the dog with the family and enjoy the sunset.  There is never really a day where the sunset looks the same but the most beautiful ones are those when the clouds play with the sun as the sun falls behind the western mountains.

After having done some researching, last week I downloaded an app called Road Bike.  It seemed to be one of the better ones out there based on the reviews.  I did read a bad review about how it only tracked up to 4 miles.  I thought, "No prob...I only bike once a week."  I totally misunderstood the reviewers point.  Anyway, the route I normally take is about 4.5 and sometimes further.  The tracking stops my time at 3.6 miles and if I want it tracked further, I'd have to pay for it.  So in other words, all the other data that it tracked was probably incorrect and based on going 3.6 miles.  >:(

I don't feel that I need to pay for an app to track my biking miles.  I'm going to keep looking for a better one but if anyone knows of a good one they use, let me know.

Just want to share how much hard work pays off.  My daughter performed her second recital earlier this month as one of the 9 Muses in a performance.  This is on top of the group dances.  She's been on break for almost a month now but she'll be returning next week.  She did something similar last year and when she started ballet and strength and condition, she came home crying because all that rest weakened her muscles.  She had to work extra hard and it took at least 4 to 6 months for her to get back into full dance capacity.  This time frame is her own confidence.  Of course if you asked me, I always think she dances beautifully no matter what.  :)

They make you work hard to stay in shape.  I used to get tired of my daughter early Sat 6am cheer practice when i want to sleep in.

Does your daughter have big calves/thight from dancing/ballet?  You daughter look like she grew taller.  What do you think your daughter average height will be?  My daufhter Meskas best friend since oreschool.  Her mom always think she will grow tall but she doesnt want to admit that her daughter is not growing anymore.  My daughter, her Meskas and Hmong best friend....thes e 3 when they were 5 yo old and 1 week apart from each other went to swimming lesson together and look like little tiny girl and today all 3 are just about the same height.  I feel thise 2 girl would have a better chance at growing taller because of their parent while husband and I are consuder short.

For me as soon as I get up in the morning I go walking for 30-40 min.  I come back home I wont need coffee to keep me awake because i feel fresh and alert.  I tried to do the same in the evening.  I need to get my bike chain fixed so I can drag my boys out with me.  Sometime the evening is hard because late dinner, snacking, going places, etc.  my plan for evening walk or jog has to end with no more eating, snacking, etc. and just rest and then shower and bedtime.

LOL..yeah, I know how you feel about cheer.  For dance, it's always in the evening so sometimes daughter gets home around 10pm, which is past her bedtime.

She doesn't have big calves because I think it's hereditary.  I don't have big ones and husband doesn't either, but she does have ballet legs, which is very muscular thigh muscles.  Right now she is about 5' 4".  I personally think she's done growing height-wise but the docs say she'll grow more and she thinks she'll be 5' 8".

It's great you are walking and keeping healthy and fit!  Right now I can't work out at all of any kind (mentioned earlier why) so I'm really bummed and pissed.  I have started what's called intermittent fasting though so hopefully this works.  It isn't really a new "diet" thing per se.  It's just a form of returning to my "roots" way of eating.  If I can keep it through to a couple of weeks, I'll be happy.

Very excited about my intermittent fasting!!

I've lost 3 lbs within a couple of weeks.  I haven't changed much on what I eat so I don't feel like I have to have a whole new diet.  What's been happening is that I am just naturally eating less because I'm training my mind how to handle food, which means I am less hungry even when I eat less.

I'm just...wow.  It really does work.  Very impressed.  A lot of weight trainers (mostly men) do intermittent fasting, btw.  Do your research before choosing an intermittent plan that works for you.  Mine works for me.  It is not a magical pill or magical weight loss.  You still have to give it time but I can feel how my body is changing.  I got on the weigh machine and couldn't believe my eyes so yes.

I am still not running or doing any type of cardio or stretch at the moment because I'm not completely healed yet.  I want to so bad but I have to really just wait it out until my inflammation is completely gone.

Now, I if I were to also do cardo while I do the intermittent fasting, I'd lose a lot more weight.  But, because I have no control over my inflammation, I can only do what I'm able to do but I am happy...mostly shocked.

I am still not back to normal (still on steroids) and I'm very upset, but with the intermittent fasting I've been doing, cause I can't do cardio or any kind of exercise until I am completely healed, I've lost a total of 5 lbs within the 2 1/5 weeks.  Remember that 7 lbs-ish I've been wanting to lose since a few years ago?  I think that was the lbs, well, I am down 7 lbs total since that time.  I only have about 3 lbs to go then I'll be at my content weight, although, I do have an itching to reach my weight when I was in college, which would mean, I'd have to lose 5 lbs. instead of 3.  Initially, I didn't think I could, but now that this is working really well, I think it's possible.

This weight loss method has been the only one that works for me and quickly too.  No diet pills, no special eating, and no working out (although again, if I did workout, I'd probably lose more).

I cannot believe how amazing this intermittent fasting has been working.  Here's what it looks like so far.  I'm recording every Friday until I reach my goal.

A big bowl of blueberries yesterday.

My first time making kimchi soup.  Couldn't decide between glass noodles, vermicilli rice noodles, or ramen.  I went with ramen 'cause the recipe asked for it but I'm going to try with other noodles and even without noddles and maybe tofu or something.  It was soooooo delicious!!!!

I've been eating pretty heavily this weak.  I think it's stress and I think I've gained some weight but only like 2 lbs or so.  I am still within my 16 hours fasting so that's why the lbs have been staying away.  Anyway, even though I've been eating lots, I've also been doing my share of healthy eating.  Such as...

Lychees:

Melon:

Lots of grapes:

Toast with fig and brie.  Not sure if this is considered healthy but it's so yummy.

...and update on my health.  I feel so much better today and I can feel that I should be getting better so it's nice.  It's a good feeling to feel my body feeling healthy...if that makes any sense.

I'm so excited today about my weightloss.  I thought I had gained at least 2 lbs but I actually lost .6 lbs!!!!  I don't know how this is working but it's working.  I've been very diligent in making sure I fast for 16 hours and for some reason it's been a miracle.  I'm not perfect at it though, for instance, yesterday I had a late dinner because the family was just busy.  It was my first time eating an hour after my deadline and I was nervous about but it didn't do much damage.  Then, the day before I had an early breakfast (Kneader's thick cinnamon bread French toast...oh, it's to die for!!!) and the day before that I had a coconut macchiato from Strabucks 'cause it was just too tempting.

I have also began to walk more.  I still can't run or bike or do stretches and weights but I can walk!!

FYI, the weighloss has been great but I still have my love handles (tummy).  I think in order to get rid of this I'll need to run and eat healthier like no sweets or white rice which I often slip in there when I know better.

Since I last posted, I've gained 3 lbs and have been steady at this weight.  I haven't eaten too much (I've actually eaten less) but I have started drinking decaf coffee with Hazelnut creamer and that has added to the weight.  With the kids starting school, it's somehow effected my routine.  Over the summer, I got up at around 9-10am and was able to start my fasting program at 11am (my first meal).  With the change in schedule, I'm having to get up earlier like 6:30-7am and get hungry by 9am.  Instead of eating that early, I'll have coffee with creamer.  By 10am, I'm super hungry.  I have to cook for the kids by 1pm-ish but I can't wait that long to eat, thus, I eat at 10.

So, now I have to give it some time and plan a new process.  I am also a lot better and can probably start running again.  Last week I tried stretching and jumping jacks and nearly almost got myself sick again so I didn't attempt it again until I felt 100% sure I wouldn't get sick, and I think I'm pretty much there.  I'll probably start running next week or in two weeks.  I've got my hands full these next couple of weeks with the kids dance (lots of rehearsals for a fall ballet performance of The Nutcracker on top of their regular dance and their competition dance rehearsals + a dance group bonding party for the kids in which they want parents to mingle); then my sister is having a baby and my sisters and I are throwing her a baby shower at my house.  There's going to be a ton of people, which I am not used to, so I am stressed...exc ited, but also stressed.  Then, we are closing on our condo same day as the shower (but in the morning) so that is stressing me out too.  On top of that, I have to clean the office of my crafting stuff.  I need to utilize the loft space to hold all my crafting stuff so that the office will be more open.  And, I teach Catechism this year again.  I told my dad, who is the director, that I wouldn't be teaching this year because I have too much going on, but he ignored me and put me down as a teacher.  I'm not upset or anything.  I love helping my dad.  He had heart surgery earlier this year and was a bit depressed afterwards (normal thing) but now he is back at church being active and it makes me so proud and happy to see him at it again.  I also have to get more writing in and I have a couple of online classes that I need to finish as well.  Besides all this, I must spend lots more personal time with my husband, who is super busy at work with flu season in.  We've hardly had time together since the kids started school so it's needed big time.  We usually do a date day once a week while the kids are in school but with our free day, we now spend it shopping for necessities, organizing the house/bills/kids stuff/ etc., and the things I mentioned above.  Husband was running every day but he hasn't had time to run at all for the last couple of weeks.

This is not complaining.  It's brain dumping.
