The youtubes, for even though gives you a glimpse of HMF, for those who was there, will readily agree that it does zero justice. You just have to be there.

Reading some of the youtube comments, some say why are people screaming so loud...let the singers sing...these are obviously people who wasn't there. I, myself, hated when I watch singings at New Year stage, a Hmong singing talent show at a school gym/auditorium or even that big building at the Fresno New Year...simply because I can't hear the singers or it's super annoying when the croud scream and yell like that. But at this concert stage in Fresno, they truly have a state of art super sound system, it's outside, and if everyone in the crowd screams at the top of their lungs we could still hear the singers/bands nicely...and that's how it should be. If there is something wrong with the crowd it's because they didn't cream loud enough.

Yamchild I'm glad you had a great time. I would be happy and willing to pay $50 just to watch the Hmong music show ALONE just like the one we've just been to at the first Hmong Music Festival. Like Hanza said, the next day we should call all our friends and tell them they really missed out on one of the greatest Hmong event/experience ever.

This Hmong Music Festival is so amazing at so many levels. First of all, it's unlike any Hmong concert or party I've ever been to and the energy level is intense. You not only get to see and experience great singing but almost all the artists put on an amazing theatrical show. It's obvious to see that they put in all their heart and energy into their singing/show. I don't know if you saw the band where one of the guitarist smash his guitar. I thought that was super intense, comical, and entertaining!!!

There's so many things I want to say but before I forget I just want to say that I feel super impressed and proud of my Hmong people after witnessing the first annual HMF. Even though we as a people haven't been here that long in the United States we've come so far and there's living proof at HMF. I'm so happy and thrilled to see the many talented interracial bands and knowing that the frontman/woman, leader, vocalist of the band is a Hmong. Alley of Fields of Prey reminds me so much of Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. Her voice sounds kind of line Stevie Nicks me...and seeing Proto-J with his great moves with so many black people on stage and knowing that Proto -J is the star is just exciting and comical at the same time.

Oh...and Hanza got it all wrong. Britney Spears is the Hmong Jade Lee. O0

I want the actual CD with the CD case and jacket...not some download thing on the Internet. I've looked in the internet but can't find any information on how to get hold of their CDs.

If anyone has Sudden Rush's CD, could you please look at the CD jacket and the back to see if there's an address or telephone number on it so I can order some copies. Thanks and much appreciated. 8)

It saddens me to not see Sudden Rush's name on the poster of the Hmong Music Festval in Fresno. I would pay the price of admission to see them sing a few songs. I have to say Sudden Rush is the most talented Hmong band today. 8)

Online Journal / The irony of life about love

Those who believe in love, rarely, if ever, find love.

Love is reserve mostly for the shameless, the dishonorable, and the cruel.

nfl and nba cheerleaders do not make much. I applaud their like in dancing to pursue a career out of it. My friend is a 49er Cheerleader and for every game, she gets paid at least 100 to 150.00 a night. She have to provide her own transportation if she is from a different city.

But whatever, I still applaud them for making the cut. There's a lot of gorgeous ladies that actually try out and do their best.

You don't think Tera Patrick and a lot of female pornstars are gorgeous and trying their best to entertain us? ??? The only difference is a pornstar such as Tera Patrick makes just as much as the NFL players, unlike the cheerleaders.

Books & Magazines / Arvind Adiga's new book "Last Man in Tower"
« on: September 21, 2011, 06:45:25 AM »
I can't wait to read Aravind Adiga's new book, "Last Man in Tower." It just came out yesterday (9/20/2011).

This young new East Indian writer is a phenomenal writer with great intelligence and insight. He is not afraid to tell things as it is by tackling all the cruel, disgusting, and depressing things in human societies that many people like to ignore or pretend it doesn't exist (especially when directing at their own people/country) while making you laugh at the same time. "The White Tiger", his first book is one of the best books I've ever read. It ranks right on top with the best Charles D!ckens classic novel. I was disappointed with his second book, "Between Assassinations", but just how is it possible to top or be as good or even half as good as "The White Tiger"?

Nevertheless, it's exciting for me to know that Aravind Adiga's new book is coming out and I'll get my hand on it this Friday. I just might dedicate my whole weekend this week reading "Last Man in Tower." If it's anything like "The White Tiger" I'll spend my upcoming weekend just ravishing that book, and yes, just imagine all the orgasms I'll get out of it. >:D 8)

International News / Re: Yingluck Chinawatra win election in Thailand
« on: July 04, 2011, 11:48:00 AM »
Elections in Thailand is such a big joke, far worst than the United States, and it makes no difference who wins. They might as well make one of the country's monkey a Prime Minister.

I think the woman comes from a billionaire family. Isn't her brother the former Prime Minster who's worth billions that was kicked out of Thailand?

I read White Tiger because it was recommended to me. It is good.

I didn't like The  Namesake as much, it was too slow and boring...just like the movie. Read the book first but the movie was a bit better for me.

Sister of my Heart is good and read it a long time ago and always wanted a movie adaptation.

Q&A is awesome! I loved it. Very different from Slumdog Millionaire. Loved it! Also read Vikas Swarup's other book, The Six Suspects. Loved it.

Other Desi authors and books I love are...

If you liked Sister of My Heart, try Amulya Malladi's two books - Mango Season & Breath of Fresh Air, loved both. Breath of Fresh Air has some of the Bhopal incidents in there, very heart warming. I love how it's written with each one of the character's point of view. Mango Season is hilarious, it's about a South Indian who is going back home to India, a country she once loves and now is annoyed with everything, that's what happens when you leave home for a while.

Or brainless fun books by Sonia Singh  - Goddess for Hire, Bollywood Confidential, and Ghost Interrupted

I'm always happy to know that someone has read "The White Tiger." I hope you're Hmong.

I would love to write something like "The White Tiger" but from a Hmong point of view. I know that after "The White Tiger" was published millions of Indians hate Adiga, but the irony is that a book like "The White Tiger" can only improve the lives of Indians.

Books & Magazines / Re: East of Eden
« on: December 13, 2010, 03:44:59 PM »
So, you were alive in the 19th Century when The Brother's Karamazov and Les Miserables were published and you felt profound sadness because no other books came close to these two great literature until East of Eden, which was published in the 20th Century, came along?

 :D

Just messin' with ya.  I'm sure that is not what you meant, but that is how your post would be taken into context. We get a sense of what you were saying though.

Whatever go-go dancer. ::)

Books & Magazines / East of Eden

After I read "The Brothers Karamazov" and then "Les Miserables" there was a deep and profound sadness in me because so many of the books I read afterward for so many years didn't come close to matching those two. I've read so many books after those two, including both classics and contemporary and everything in the publishing world. There were some good and even some really great ones too...but none came close to "The Brothers Karamazov" and "Les Miserables."

That is until "East of Eden" came along. I can feel alive and hopeful again. :)

a sports dancer is not derogatory; being a pornstar is. there is a difference, even though both may pertain to a woman's sexuality.
whether a porn star is acting or not, she's often subject to being portrayed as inferior, used, and abused; especially asian women.
dancers have an occupation that maintain professionalis m, in that even though the attention they receive may stem from the same
orientation, they don't put themselves in demeaning situations.

So what you're saying the difference is like the way a CEO/Wall Street type person and a bank robber makes their money?

It's the same thing but they just go about at different ways of achieving it...with one being respectable or sort of respectable or at least okay and the other one is not?
