Respect and say thank you to the hard working generation and your elders who work hard and sacrificed everything to give you everything.

Thank you mom and dad.

Yep, when my mom divorced my dad back in 1980, us kids really had to pitch in and do our part to get through the tough time together but it was worth it at the end because it taught us a good life lesson.

Some examples of the things us kids do to help my mom: recycle, selling tennis and golf balls back to those players, selling mud bugs to Asian restaurants, working in the field 12 hours/day during the summer months because of no school, wash other people's cars, lawn maintenance for other people's yards, delivering news papers, etc.

It was a good life lesson because it really taught me the meaning of earning exactly what you work for because we didn't get pay hourly wage or salary...we get paid exactly for the work we do whether it's by the pound, the bucket, the row, the sack or the paper delivered...

Now, you have lazy leeching bastards that cry about working more than "20 hour/week"...That's less than 2 days of work in the field under the hot sun during those summer seasons..for me :idiot2:

I appreciated all hard working people these days.  Do note that hard working is not the same as working hard.

The job may be hard but you only working a few hours vs.  A person working lighter work but busting 2.5 jobs and sleeping barely 4 hours a night.

wanna hear mine when I was at my best?

2 full time working back to back with driving distance between the two so that is like 19hours straight.  Time to forage for food takes some time.  4 hours sleep.  Do this 5 straight days and know what I do on the weekend?  Working on my side projects.  No time to date.  Forget about sex cuz I fall asleep faster than she can takes off my pants.   :2funny:

You gotta do it so when you become a grandpa, you can tell your grandkids about the good old days.  They probably don't even believe you when you say you are older than google   :2funny:

I'm not done.  I may want to go back and do 3 jobs to break my own record.  8 hours per job, 24 hours non stop, no sleep so 24x24x24x24x24 = big pay check

then quit and retire after my first week.  Get a heart attack and die  :2funny:

We are on the same boat. Growing up with five siblings with only our mom. We all had to pitch in on everything. We mature very quickly. Life was tough but as a family we stuck together and pull through. Our bindings became strong and we are very close till this very day.

I’ve witnessed so many parents, grandparents, and all the elders worked hard so they can provide to their families. Till there day that hard work mentality is still clicking within me. I taught that to my princess and hopefully she will pass that on to my grandkids.

Unless you're set up at home, I don't bother. In my industry I can wait for Monday 99% of the time. On the rare occasion I need to go in on the weekend, I have keys to the building.

So true, burn out is no joke. Balance between work, home, and social life is key.

I do get to telecommute certain days, so that is nice.  I work with lawyers, bond counsels, and financial advisors so if a deal is going down, I may need to be available to respond to questions (if needed).  I’d hate to go into the office on the weekend, so I’m very fortunate I can do things from home.

People looking at me and say why I'm working too hard.  I looked at myself and say, well I don't have a family, no wife, no kids so I'm allowed to do it now but when I do have that youngins, I'm slowing it all down to invest in my family.

I looked at them and I'm like.  You guys pushing 12 hours a day, milking all that OT and has to come home and be a family person at home.  To me, that's 3 jobs.  Makes me feel a lot better thinking like that.   O0

Regarding working hard, it is all about a person's working ethics.  They acquired it throughout their life through struggles and setting their priorities straight.

To some, working hard cuz they have ADD.   They can't sit still and needs to do something, anything.

To some like myself, I was a princess growing up.  No need to do chores, not even washing dishes or doing laundry.   Not even doing my bed.  No need to work either when you get good allowance growing up for doing nothing.  Typical old school traditional viet family where they think that the female in the family takes care of the household chores.

Their biggest mistake.  After mommy died, guilt is the hardest thing for me to swallow.  With no one around to cater to my azz, I had to learn everything from scratch.  It then becomes addicted and makes me mad, even today that had I am equipped with these skills, I could have helped her.

Everyone has a story I tell ya.  We are who we are by what already happened to us from yesterdays.  Playing catch up, that's hard work for me.

Working hard pays off.  I'm in a position where I try not pass 25hrs of actual work in a 40hr week.  The hard part is trying to look busy.  Most times, I "work" overtime just for the hell of it.  My motto, if I'm going to clock out a minute pass my regular schedule, I'm going on a 30min break, and then clock out.

Sad that people now-a-days want only handouts...

Growing up, we had both parents but they both work full time and can't really speak any English. We all had to get part-time jobs as soon as we can to survive (you all know Hmong people have lots of kids). I started working when I was 15yrs old at burger joint and during college I worked full time 3rd shift. Head straight to classes from work and sleep in-between classes. I had an alarm clock in my car for that... It was all worth it though because I had no student loan after graduating.

I put up with a lot of bs to get where I'm at.  I'm good at what I do.  As long I get the job done and do what the boss say, I'm left alone.  I'm the only employee that's not in a management/lead position that has the most freedom.

That’s dedication and I’m happy that things worked out for you. Those days was tough. I myself had to work OT for years just to make ends meet. Heck I even had to harvest vegetables and fruits on the side on top of that.

Many kids today don't realize how hard it was for many of us refugees when we arrived in the States. And I know it was even harder for my elders back in Laos...

There's was a point in my life where I worked at 3 three jobs...

Also from ages 12-15, I was out in the fields under the hot sun every Summer from 5am-5pm..

And working out in the fields, if you don't work, you don't get paid because you get paid for exactly the work you do i.e., per pound, basket, sack, row, etc., there was no hourly wages nor salary...

It was hard work but it also taught me a good life lesson.

I have spoken about this before that some people work, not because of money or bills to pay or needed the money to pay off debt or to raise their family.

When I first started out working, I was a young buck, in a field with other people who worked there all their lives.  They needed the job for their own survival.  Work = money for them and so they are working for a living.  I on the other hand were lazy, asking days off like no other and pay me anything on my check, no matter how small and I would be ok.  I have minimum bills, no gf, no need to pay rent or mortgage and all I needed the money is to pump my gas and $20 cover charge into a club.  Oh and buying booze and taking girls out was where all my income goes to.

So you see, I can not be in the same class as my co workers.  My work ethics were poor and this is probably a reason why some manager needs someone whom they can invest in and not some young cat who will get lazy, missing work because he's too drunk off from the clubs and such.

There's also a class of workers who likes to work because going home is where they do not want to be.  Moment they get home, the home life is so unbearable for them.  Domestic violence and such.

I kind of fall into that category after the mommy passed away.  I could not cope with her death that I took on more than enough jobs to keep myself busy.  I just do not want to do anything at home so when someone asking me to do something, I say I have to work and so I'm exempt.  It then becomes a way of life for me.  I was pushing over 90+ hours a week like it was nothing.  I didn't even go home cuz driving up and from work is about 2 hours each way so 4 hours per day if I'm a commuter.  I told myself, why not just get another job to fill in them 4 hours, at least you get payed for it instead of being stuck in the car for 4 hours per day and not getting payed for it.  The concept makes sense right?

If anything, it should be me paying them for having a roof over my head for the grave shift and they have a gym there and a shower there so not having to pay for gym membership is a win.  You know them stories about how tech folks were living in their car and working 2 jobs?  I was that guy and I survived one of my darkest days.  It was like I was an operational manager for myself.  I budget my time, my life, where to eat, where to stay so I don't get mug, where to party and where to live a life like so that even my friends do not even know what I'm doing.  I did all this while partying too.

Those were them good old days.  It helps to build character and it was something I always wanted to do.  It can be seen as a mental illness but as long as I don't hurt anyone or hurting myself, it is a good kind of illness.  Maybe this is why i'm not a bf material.  I can't find a spot to fill in that gf unless she runs a homeless life like I do too.   :2funny:

I know hard work, but I also know the pursuit of the art of perfection.  That doesn't mean it needs to be perfect, but it should be an artistic ritual to the task and repeatedly more artistic perfection each time.
