all my family member, relatives, and friend.
a lot of them don't even take the 401k at work.
they have zero investment.

i ask them why
and they just say something dumb like "i don't need it"

listen people
at least take the 401k at work, ok
you will be wealthy in the long run
don't just put like 2% or 6%
really put like 10-15%

parent came here to the USA when I was little.
They were poor, work in the factory.
didn't want that life
i went to the tech for accounting.
I work in financial, got out, did some retail, now i'm back in the game.

General Discussion / I stop doing shaman and other religious stuff a long time ago

This is just my personal view and my view only.


I remember getting really sick one day. Couldn't get out of bed, almost was a goner. My parent decided to call in the shaman and heal me spiritual. I was sitting on the shaman table as he goes around me, spliting water at my face. He say there was a evil spirit in my body and that he scared the demon away.  he say I was heal, even though I feel sick still.

That night, my fever went up even higher. I finally drove myself to the ER, where they put me on IV and give me antibodies. I stay at the hospital for 24 hours while they monitor me. Slowly, i got better thanks to the medicine.

Hey been a while. Anyway been working at a firm
and like to give some good advice to my fellow Hmong brothers and sister
About saving for retirement
I like to keep this thread in the general discussion if possible

This is free advice, truth advice, no BS
If you follow my advice, we will all be rich in the long run.

Today we going be talking about a ROTH IRA
ROTH IRA is good for low income folks less than $60k
It is tax free, you put money in and when you retired at 59.5 years
You can take it all out. tax free
401k you have to pay tax

You want to open A ROTH IRA
You can do this at Schwab, vanguard, or fidelity

Once you open that, you want to deposit as much as you can annually up to $5500
You have to work and earn $5500 to deposit $5500
So if you make $3000, you can only deposit $3000

After that, you want to invest your money.
Look for a low cost index target date fund

once, you open your account with any of those 3 company, i listed above
you want to chose what you want to invest in

for vanguard, you chose
this is a target date for 2055 (chose which date you like to retired)

the reason why we chose these plan
is because they are low cost, and you get to own like alot of the stock
so even if facebook goes down, you still got others.
you probably own like 3,000 of the stock or etc.. depending on which plan you chose
plus you don't really need to rebalance it or anything, it's all automatic
just have to put in your monthly deposited
it's that easy
don't get any easier than that

in the long run, you will be RICH

a lot of hmong people try to sell this life insurance
it basically like a whole life insurance
but tie to the market

you still get your money policy if you die and until you die
and it gain cash value as it age depending on how the market is doing

you can take out those cash value if you need it pay bill and stuff
or take it all out and leave the policy if you like once you reach a certain age

it's like a cheap investment(401k)+life insurance at the same time

as with all life insurance, get it while you are young
less expensive
ive been playing $20 for a $100k for many years now long time ago


so $20 (per month) X 12 (month)= $240 per year
$240 (per year) x 70 (years)= $16,800 (estimate payment base on average lifespan)
$100,000-16,800= $83,200 ( they paid you a return to your kids) and your $16,800

life insurance is almost like an investment for your kids
i think it's pretty decent, you deal with market
