"The Whale"

Another masterfully directed movie by Darren Aronofsky. This was an adaptation from the play.

It takes a skilled storyteller to engage the audience about a subject and character that would go unseen by most people. After all, does anybody really care about a depressed morbidly obese, gay white man who slowly eats his way to death? I really enjoyed Charlie's complex character, played by Brendan Fraser. Fraser gave an award-winning performance. Despite suffering from depression, Charlie appeared to be the most optimistic person in the room. And then there was Liz, Charlie's only caring friend and caregiver who was an accomplice to his gluttony.

Everyone gave impressive performances except for the ex-wife. I don't know the name of the actress but for me personally, she over-acted and it did not feel natural to me.

I forgot to add that I read "Moby ****" back in middle school. It was boring and I've long forgotten what happened. I only remember that it was about Captain Ahab and his strong desire to kill a whale. It didn't occur to me that Melville may have been writing about himself. This movie brought a new perspective about the book, whether it's true or not. If so, wow, I can see why it's a classic and revered as a masterpiece. It wasn't by accident that I felt bored throughout the book. Melville wanted the reader to feel the boredom and that maybe killing Moby **** was the only excitement that could redeem time lost on reading the book.

That's so true about life. Sometimes we get so bored and sad about life that we think if only this happens or I get this, I'll be happy.

some say, it's the journey, not the destination...

the little things, have the biggest meanings....th e hard times, blessings in disguise...and sometimes, the good times- curses in disguise. :-X
