In this day and age, people are still homeless?... Isn't it 2K...

What happens is that people feel entitled to something and fall into greed.

Music Discussion / Re: Jade Lee - That Boy
« on: June 05, 2014, 02:10:14 PM »
I want to know how many of you actually listened to all her songs???  I'm a big Jade fan and have followed her career since the beginning and can say I've had the luxury to listen to every one of her songs and have met her at several of her events.  Personally, I think she is a very strong song writer and vocalist, arguably the best we have in the Hmong community from the new generation.  I also commend her for having the courage to be unconventional for the Hmong community and singing a genre that isn't popular, especially for a woman.

If you guys actually listen to her albums and EPs you will come to realize that her song writing abilities goes much farther than just "That Boy" and/or the stuff you may have heard online.  In fact, most of her songs are not even online.  Some of my favorites from her would be 1) "Teb Kuv" from her first album and 2) March of Leng Cheng from her second album.  I love her Christmas song also!!

In short, don't judge her overall make-up as an artist from just the few songs you may have heard online.  Also, it is okay not to like her style of music but don't knock her as an artist.  Personally, I think she is the only female Hmong Artist we have that can cross generations, race and cultures.  A lot of her fans aren't even Hmong and we should be proud that she can cross the Asian-American boundaries.  I don't know if any of you guys know but she was recently featured on "BestoftheNext. com" which is an Asian-American artist website.  She is the only Hmong artist we have representing us with the likes of Paul Kim, J-Reyez, David Choi, etc.  I don't know about you guys, but that makes me freaking proud. I encourage you guys to go get her albums and really listen to them.  I think then you will realize how talented and deep of an artist she is and how lucky we are to have her in our Hmong community.  Just some food for thought!

Dang where did you dig this up? A lot of Hmong artists these days are copycats of mainstream music, not much originality in their music. Some basic three to four chord progressions that people want to hear.

You and I need to get together, sit down and have a talk then...

Because I don't know where all her albums or songs are? You can show me. Then we can constructively take a deeper look at the different notes and songs that was written over a cup of joe.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the video and the song are two separate pieces. The white guys shown are not the ones who sung the song and translated it. Song was sung by Pov G. Thoj.

Hmong Culture & History / Hmong Chiyou
« on: May 14, 2014, 10:00:15 PM »
Is this leader a myth and legend or is he a real Hmong leader? Who is the real Chiyou?

I've been getting mixed reviews and suppositions over people telling me their story of Chiyou.

Heres another story:

"Legend has it that the Hmong were a brave and strong group.  Thousands of years ago, they fought against the Han Chinese to protect their land and culture.  The Hmong won 9 out of 10 battles.  On the 10th battle, Hmong officials betrayed their king, Chiyou (Txiv Yawg).  It was because of this betrayal that the Chinese won the last battle and captured and executed Chiyou.  They cut up his body into 7 pieces and scattered it all over China so the Hmong people will never be reunited again.  Today, the Hmong are displaced all over the world, from China, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand to Australia, France, Canada, the US."

Positive News / Merced County swears in nation's first Hmong judge

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) --  A new judge is sworn into Merced County Superior Court, but it's sparking national attention.

For the first time in the history of the United States, a Hmong man is now a superior court judge. Paul Lo, 45, was sworn in as a Merced County judge on Friday in front of countless family members, friends and community members -- all emotional at the sight of immense triumph.

"For him to be in that role now that we have young folks that are coming up that can say 'look, he's on the bench, and we can aspire to become successful,' and so those are important role models that are establishing now," said Fresno City Councilman Blong Xiong.

Lo has crossed more than just judiciary hurdles. He crossed an ocean to get to where he is today. As a child, Lo was one of many Hmong fearing persecution in Vietnam after the Vietnam War. Many Hmong assisted Americans in the war and had to flee the country.

"They paved the way for us to be here tonight with their lives. They left everything they ever knew, lost everything they ever owned, and braved the unknown," said Lo.

Many political leaders including Rep. Jim Costa, D-Fresno, spoke proudly at Friday's historical event.

"That still is a beacon of light throughout the world that you can come here with nothing but the clothes on your back, and if you work hard and you get a good education, you can succeed," said Costa.

Merced County has the fifth largest Hmong community in the country -- now fit with a role model to inspire for generations to come.

Good morning Jon-Jon,
Hope you are doing fine and is having a wonderful spring.

I heard the news that Ultimate Warrior passed on and it's kind of sad because he was a legend.  I was hoping for him to make a comeback before he gets too old, but guess he move on.  He was one of those Icons where you take notice and reminds me of a superhero like the rock.  Rock's presence can shine the whole arena and warrior had that spark. I hope the warrior family take it well and hope he will find happiness.
G'morn, man. It's kind of hard remembering him as a kid, I have faint memories of his wrestling matches on TV when WWF reigned supreme. I know the feeling now that my co-worker had when Davy Jones of the Monkees passed away in 2012, it's someone you grew up seeing live on TV. And now they're gone.

Guess what hit me was the memory of that time my friend in grade school dressed up as the Ultimate Warrior and claimed to be his kid. He was a poor kid like me and for Halloween he wore nothing but some undies and tied some strings around his elbows and knees. Marker'd up his face with a mask like he was the Ultimate Warrior and showed up to class.. Haha

The teacher took him to the principals office called his parents and told him to go back home and put on some clothes. Lols...

The Warrior is now amongst the Gods.
