times have changed... get with the program... it's unfortunate but it's reality... we conduct fire-drills, tornado-drills, lock-down drills, and lock-out drills multiple times within a school year...

I went to visit a school one day for a service request ticket I was working on. I got there and all the lights were off. I looked through the window of the office and no one was at the counter, no one was moving. It was pretty odd, like the school had closed down. Cars were in the parkinglot too so I thought, maybe something was wrong. I knocked on the window for a bit then finally a secretary came out to open the door for me and explained they were having a school shooting drill. Then I see students being quiet and cowarding in the corners and out of sight.

A psychologist has been able to take down a bad guy with a gun at his clinic. Some CC holders have been able to prevent more school shootings by taking down the respective perpetrators. Store patrons have averted robbers in various places around the country.
Florida's new legislation follows that.
But, like any other power, "some people want it for good, while others want it for evil."
Big question is: what if those Florida teachers turn psychotic and start taking students in their classes for notoriety and the like?

The assumption here is that all Teachers are good and none will break down and use their gun for unnecessary "self defense". Keep in mind that police officers are highly trained on the use of weapons, yet you still get all these police shootings that make the news. Now you're handing out guns to teachers, what do you think will happen?

don't mistake that just because legislature approve teachers to armed doesn't mean every teacher gets in line and receives a firearm. It allows for those who are willing..a volunteer program, which will include intensive training and psychological evaluation. arming teachers will reduce the possibility of further attacks. there have been instances but it is rare that you will see a perp shoot up a police station or places where there are armed security or citizens. Even now after the UNC shooting, alumni says campus gun free zones must be abolished.

you're right one death is already too many but would you rather have two or more? you own guns, you admit to it...you know the standard capacity of an AR15 is 30 rounds...so you would rather he finish his magazine, reloads again before anyone, not just anyone but police, can take action? arming teacher is a wise choice, unless we operate our school system like a jail system.

we have to have faith in our teachers, as our kids spend 50% of their day at school. school is supposed to be a safe zone but it isn't what it used to be. preparation is our best resource as we don't know when sh!t might happen, that is why we have specific drills (fire, active shooter and storms) nowadays. the teachers are expected to be the first line of defense. they can't do that if we don't allow them to be prepared. the volunteered teachers will need to complete annual training (suggested 140 to 200 hours), which also include psychological evaluation.
an example of faith and using Flint-Rod, since he's a teacher...i can 99.9% put my faith in him that he will not pistol my kid and/or any other kid, whether they misbehave or not. this express faith is automatic and if you don't have that...then home school your own kids. i can also 99.9% assure that if a perp should break into his class room with a gun, he will not hesitate to use his body as shield to protect his students...but why should we limit him? when we can armed him to have an equal fighting chance, his life is just as important!

i would encourage you to volunteer if your school allows it and get trained..never hurts to gain more knowledge and take on more responsibiliti es. I can respect that you may not want to apply it at school but you definitely want to protect yourself when being out, especially when you're going fishing....nev er know when hmgrock's gonna steal your high end fishing rod or when you catch a zombie bass! ha!

as you can see, even with Colorado's stringent gun laws, sh!t will still happen and it happens at a soft target, a vulnerable place like the school. it is fortunate, they (the school officials) cared enough to have had addressed and/or practiced previous shooting drills, where the students know what to do in such event. it is also fortunate, they (the police/sheriff) cared enough to rush over in a matter of minutes to defuse the situation. granted this could not have been prevented but the fore thought and preparedness saved a lot of kids' lives. trust me...everybody cares, even the president was advised of this incident.
