Shohei Ohtani's interpreter fired after accusation of 'massive theft' from Dodgers star, per report

Shohei Ohtani's longtime interpreter has been fired after being accused of a theft, said to be in the magnitude of millions of dollars, from the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Ohtani's legal team reportedly claimed that Ippei Mizuhara used the two-way phenom's funds to place bets with an allegedly illegal bookmaker, Mathew Bowyer, who is currently under federal investigation.

A Dodgers spokesperson told the Times shortly after the news broke that Mizuhara had been fired.

From the Times:

In a statement, the West Hollywood law firm Berk Brettler said, “In the course of responding to recent media inquiries, we discovered that Shohei has been the victim of a massive theft and we are turning the matter over to the authorities.”

Mizuhara was working as recently as the previous night in South Korea, where he interpreted for Ohtani following the Dodgers' 5-2 win over the San Diego Padres to open the MLB season. To replace Mizuhara, the Dodgers can likely look in-house, as Yoshinobu Yamamoto has used his own Japanese interpreter since signing with the team.

Ohtani's interpreter said Dodgers star paid off $4.5 million in gambling debt, then things got weird
A subsequent ESPN report shed more light on the situation behind the scenes but also invited even more questions.

Ohtani's camp reportedly presented Mizuhara for an interview Tuesday night in Korea, where he claimed the slugger agreed to pay off at least $4.5 million in gambling debt for him last year. Mizuhara claimed he placed his bets via DraftKings before meeting Bowyer, whom he said he believed to be a legal bookmaker.

From ESPN:

"I'm terrible [at gambling.] Never going to do it again. Never won any money," Mizuhara said. "I mean, I dug myself a hole, and it kept on getting bigger, and it meant I had to bet bigger to get out of it and just kept on losing. It's like a snowball effect."

Supposedly, Ohtani was unhappy upon learning about the debt but agreed to make the payments to Bowyer's associate himself, rather than giving the money Mizuhara. The payment was supposed to be a loan to Mizuhara, who reportedly made between $300,000 and $500,000 annually working for Ohtani, with the wire's description filled out as "loan."

However, upon being asked about this account, Ohtani's camp reportedly disavowed Mizuhara, who told ESPN the next day that Ohtani had no knowledge of the gambling debt and did not make the transfer. At issue appeared to be the claim that Ohtani was directly involved in the payments, which led to the involvement of his legal team:

When an ESPN reporter asked Ohtani's camp about the allegation from Mizuhara that Ohtani was present and helped move the funds and that he was going to be paid back, the spokesman contacted Ohtani's attorneys, who then issued the statement saying he was the victim of a "massive theft."

ESPN reports that Bowyer dealt directly with Mizuhara, who allegedly placed bets on soccer matches and other sports — but never baseball — starting in 2021. Bowyer's attorney said he never spoke with or met Ohtani. MLB players are allowed to bet on other sports but not with illegal bookmakers.

"I never bet on baseball," Mizuhara said. "That's 100 percent. I knew that rule. ... We have a meeting about that in spring training."

Mizuhara reportedly addressed the Dodgers clubhouse Wednesday in Korea, telling the team that a story was coming out and that it was all his fault, saying he has a gambling addiction.

Ippei Mizuhara is more than an interpreter for Shohei Ohtani
This development is a shocker for anyone who has closely followed Ohtani. Mizuhara's tenure as Ohtani's interpreter goes back to his rookie year with the Los Angeles Angels in 2018, and his tenure as his friend goes back even longer. The two first met when Ohtani joined the Nippon-Ham Fighters in 2013 while Mizuhara was working as an interpreter for an English-speaking player.

Mizuhara followed Ohtani to the United States, becoming his personal interpreter and a fixture at Ohtani's side as he became the most famous baseball player on earth. He even served as Ohtani's catcher in the 2021 Home Run Derby. Mizuhara was Ohtani's voice in every public appearance and his closest friend since arriving stateside.

Ohtani brought Mizuhara with him when he signed a record-shattering, $700 million contract with the Dodgers in the offseason, the largest known contract by total value in sports history. Ohtani is also by far the richest player in MLB when it comes to endorsements, as Sportico estimates that he makes $65 million per year. That figure is larger than that of the rest of the top 15 players combined, with Bryce Harper second at $7 million.

The past few months have been eventful for Ohtani outside of baseball as well. He announced a surprise marriage just last month, with his wife's identity revealed days ago to be retired Japanese basketball player Mamiko Tanaka. He also went viral with his adoption of a dog, named Dekopin.

North Carolina, Georgia Top 5 Kinkiest States in the U.S.

You are some naughty kinky people in the southeast! I’m here for it too! The website Bedbible (nice name) just released its top 50 Kinkiest States list and North Carolina and Georgia on in the top 5!

What does it take for the “sexperts” at Bedbible to come up with this amazing list? The good employees at the company looked at the number of Google searches for different popular sex toys and other sexy accessories. You know words like “fleshlight,” “anal beads,” “rose toy” and “lube.” They wanted to know what states are the naughtiest when it comes to research about these fine toys and accessories.

So where did we land? Well, congrats Georgia you’re number 1 on the list of kinkiest states! That’s right the Peach State is also the country’s kinkiest state. Check out this stat. Georgia came in first place with an average monthly search volume of 521 per 100,000 residents. That’s a lot of naughty searches!

North Carolina isn’t that far behind on the Kinkiest States List!
North Carolina was actually tied for the 5th spot with Colorado of kinkiest states.  The residents of these kinkiest states both had 494 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. That’s not that far off the top spot!

Overall Nevada came in 2nd place, with an average monthly “kink search” volume of 509 per 100,000 residents, while New York came in a close third with 508 per 100,000 residents.

In fourth place was the Lone Star state of Texas, which had 498 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. More like the “lonely star state!”

California was next at 6 on the kinkiest states list with 488 searches per 100,000 residents, and Washington state popped up at 7  with 484 per 100,000. The 8th spot went to 2 states; Utah and Illinois, both states tied at 479 Googles per 100,000 residents. The 9th kinkiest state is Maryland, at 473, and finishing off the list in 10th place was Massachusetts, which had 462 per 100,000 searches each month.

Bedbile which btw is an amazing website filled with more sex toy knowledge than you can imagine, says the state with the least amount of kinky Google inquiries is South Dakota. Those not so freaky Dakotan’s punch in 322 searches per 100,000 residents each month.

Sex is back at the Olympic Village: Paris will hand out 300,000 condoms

Four new sports, including skateboarding and surfing, will be featured at this summer’s Paris Olympic Games. But one age-old form of physical activity is also set to make a comeback: sex, or as the French call it, “sport in the room.”

Organizers in the City of Love are not only turning the page on the covid-era intimacy ban imposed on athletes at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 - they plan to make 300,000 condoms available to residents of the Olympic Village.

Subscribe to The Post Most newsletter for the most important and interesting stories from The Washington Post.

With that quantity, every resident “will have what they are expecting and what they need,” said Laurent Michaud, director of the Olympic and Paralympic Village, in an interview with Sky News.

Michaud said organizers’ goal is for the more than 14,000 athletes, staff and members of the press in the Village during the Games to “feel very enthusiastic and comfortable,” he said. The Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place between July 26 and Sept. 8.

There will be no alcohol - as is common for Olympic Villages - but “it’s going to be a great place so they can actually share their moment,” he said.

The news will likely be welcomed by many athletes, who were asked by the International Olympic Committee to “avoid unnecessary forms of physical contact” during the last Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games because of the pandemic.

Distributing condoms at the Games isn’t a new tradition. According to Slate, it goes back to the Seoul Olympics in 1988, when about 8,500 condoms were handed out to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. But the numbers have shot up over time: At the Sydney Olympics in 2000, organizers had to order 20,000 more condoms after they realized the initial 70,000 they had ordered wouldn’t be enough, according to Inside the Games, a specialized sports publication.

The Rio Olympics in 2016 topped the cake, with 450,000 male and female condoms distributed - prompting the New York Post to run an article with the headline, “Ludicrous amount of condoms shipped to Brazil for Olympics.”

Even Tokyo, with its ban on close contact, wasn’t exactly condom-free. Organizers planned to give out 150,000 condoms, but told Reuters they were “not for use at the athlete’s village, but to have athletes take them back to their home countries to raise awareness.”

It’s impossible to know exactly how much sex goes on among athletes at the Olympics, but anecdotes from athletes suggest there’s no shortage. “There’s a lot of sex going on,” American soccer goalkeeper and two-time Olympic gold medalist Hope Solo told ESPN in 2012, and American swimmer and 12-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte said that about “70 percent to 75 percent of Olympians” were having sex.

Paris also recently announced it is taking the opportunity presented by the Games to redesign the packet of the condoms it gives away throughout the year. City Hall is hosting a contest to find the packet’s next design, centered around the theme of sexual consent, and is encouraging a nod to the “festive framework” of the Games.

Not everyone at the Olympics is getting busy - and as The Washington Post previously reported, some athletes have appeared skeptical that the volume of condoms ordered for past Olympic Games is actually needed.

The Rio Olympics offer of 450,000 condoms “is an absolutely huge allocation of condoms,” retired English Olympic rowing medalist Zac Purchase told the Guardian in 2016. Purchase speculated that the majority of the condoms wouldn’t be needed. “t is all so far from the truth of what it’s like to be in there. It’s not some sexualized cauldron of activity,” Purchase said. “We’re talking about athletes who are focused on producing the best performance of their lives.”

Meanwhile, U.S. snowboarder and Olympic medalist Jamie Anderson told Us Weekly during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, that many in the Olympic Village used the dating app Tinder to meet people. But she said it got “way too distracting” and she deleted her account “to focus on the Olympics.”

While condoms might be offered to athletes, one traditional item of French culture - and potential source of distraction - won’t be. “No champagne in the Village of course,” Michaud told Sky. “But they can have all the champagne they want … in Paris.”

Biden awkwardly wanders off stage at Arizona campaign event as he 'couldn’t resist' a baby

Biden later told the crowd of supporters that he 'couldn’t resist that little baby'

During a campaign event in Arizona on Tuesday, President Biden abruptly wandered off the stage after he noticed a baby in the crowd.

The seemingly awkward moment in Phoenix came as Biden was standing behind his campaign manager, Julie Chávez Rodríguez, who was sharing her brief opening remarks during the Latinos for President Biden rally.

As she was speaking, Biden noticed the baby and a brief moment later, he walked off and sat down with the baby and its mother.

"Well, folks, I have to tell you straight up," Biden said at the Mexican restaurant called El Portal, returning to the stage. "I like you all, but I couldn’t resist that little baby."

On Tuesday, the Democratic presumptive presidential nominee urged the Latino voters at the event to support him in November, when he is likely to square off in a rematch with former President Trump in the 2024 general election.

"You're the reason why in large part I beat Donald Trump [in 2020]," Biden said. "I need you badly."

Woman revealed on the Ramsey Show that a 'trusted friend' lost $600K of her money in the stock market

They say you should never lend money to a friend. But some might even argue that the old adage doesn’t go far enough: you also shouldn’t let a friend manage your money.

On an episode of The Ramsey Show, co-hosts Dr. John Delony and Jade Warshaw encountered a shocking example of this.

Jeanie, a 58-year-old nurse and single mom of three adult sons, called in and referred to her situation as "a very, very, very big, big problem."

Undocumented immigrant says Trump is ‘racist.’ Hear why he would vote for him if he could

Gelacio Velazquez is from Mexico and has lived in Houston for 25 years. Despite describing former President Trump as a "racist," Velazquez tells CNN's Rosa Flores he would support Trump if he could vote in the US election. Noncitizens are not eligible to vote in federal elections. A February Fox News poll found Latino registered voters closely split between Trump and President Joe Biden.

This undocumented immigrant with U.S. citizen children says that, if he could, he would vote for Donald Trump, because "he's a nationalist and wants this country to be well."

He says that "under Joe Biden, the country is an economic disaster."

Iceland volcano erupts prompting evacuation of Blue Lagoon

Iceland’s world-famous Blue Lagoon and the nearby town of Grindavik were evacuated on Saturday following a volcanic eruption in the country’s Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland’s public broadcaster RÚV reported.

Lava appeared to be flowing rapidly towards north of the town Grindavík, just as it did during the eruption on February 8, RÚV said citing the Icelandic Met Office. RUV later reported that lava was also flowing toward the Grindavíkurvegur road – the main road leading to Grindavik.

“The fissure is about three kilometers long [about 1.9 miles], and runs from Stóra-Skógfell towards Hagafell,” it said

I’ve paid rent to my boyfriend since 2012 — and helped raise his child. He’s making $200,000 on the sale of his home. Am I entitled to half?

I have a question, and I’m not sure who else I can ask without ruffling feathers. I’ve been with my significant other for 12 years now. We are not married! He had a 2-year-old son when I met him; his son is now 14. We also have a son together who is 2 years old. We recently put an offer on a new home and it was accepted. We have come up with a percentage split based on our incomes which works out to 58/42.

I moved into his home around 2012. I pay him a monthly rent and I also buy all the groceries and household items (laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, etc). I take care of the landscaping by mowing or paying half for someone to mow. I pay half for mulch and I pay for all the plants and greenery myself. I have contributed to the decorations and upkeep of the home as well.

Only he is on the mortgage and the deed of the home we live in now. He’s looking at about a $200,000 profit when he sells his home. My question is: What is fair? I have taken care of his first child from another marriage for about 12 years — that’s a lot of money out of my pocket spent on food, hygiene items and household items. I have also taken care of the home all those years and helped to make it what it is today.

I’m not looking for financial gain, but I think maybe he should cover the realtor’s commission when we sell this home, or maybe cover a renovation project or two after we buy our new jointly-owned property. I will continue to pay for the older son’s expenses as he will be living in our new home most of the time (it’s 50/50 custody but he is with us about 75% of the time as he prefers to stay at our house). What are your thoughts?
