One Direction. They are cute in that little brother kind of way and they actually have some very catchy tunes.

Like this one: "Irresistible"

Music Discussion / Where do you discover new music/bands?
« on: January 04, 2013, 01:35:55 AM »
I realize that most people only listen to mainstream stuff that's playing on the radio. Where do you normally go in order to discover music and bands that aren't exactly mainstream? For myself, sometimes I'll hear a song at the store or on a show or simply through the sites of other music artists. I also check out last.fm a lot and if you type in music artists that you like it will suggest other similar artists that you might be interested in. Plus, my friends usually like things that aren't mainstream so I get the word from them.

Music Discussion / Finally Found The Song!!!!!
« on: November 17, 2012, 07:04:58 PM »
Awhile back there was a song that I wanted to find. Well it's no wonder I couldn't find it! I got the lyrics of the hook wrong. I blame the PA system at Barnes and Noble.  :P Anyways, I'm ecstatic that I heard it on the radio and was able to download it.

"Change" - Churchill

Music Discussion / Let's Do Something New In Here (covers)

Post a song by original performer and then a cover that you think is pretty amazing. Everybody rates which they like better.
I'll start:

"Titanium"
Original Performance by: David Guetta ft. Sia

Note: I didn't use official video because the only one I could find was VEVO and I can't stand the commercials sometimes

Cover performed by Madilyn Bailey

Music Discussion / Don't You Hate It When You Can't Find The Song?
« on: April 13, 2012, 02:59:37 PM »
So I was at Barnes and Noble and this AWESOME song starts playing in the store. Sounds kind of like Annie Lennox or Florence and The Machine and there's a hook that goes something like:

...it rains again...
...when it rains...

But I couldn't make out the lyrics because of the noise distractions. I wanted to stop one of the employees and ask but didn't.

Anyways, came home to research and all I could come up with was Paramore's "When It Rains" but I know that's not it!

Ugh!

Poetic Souls / You Know You're A Mom

YOU KNOW YOUR’E A MOM

You know you’re a mom when you…
…must count out each marshmallow before serving hot cocoa
…can name more Pokemon characters than you really care to know
…refer to Wet Wipes as your most trusted and loyal friend
…have hot date nights with shirts, jeans, and toys to mend

You know you’re a mom when you…
…walk out the door with tiny fingerprints on your backside
…smell like baby powder, formula, but mostly Liquid Tide
…get excited about taking a nap or a long hot bath
…feel proud that you still remember fifth grade math

You know you’re a mom when you…
…thought your voice couldn’t get any louder but it just did
…agree that being sent to bed without dinner won’t harm the kid
…realize that kisses are best for scrapes and wounds
…think it’s unhealthy to watch too much cartoons

You know you’re a mom when you…
…can’t recall the last grown-up movie you saw at the Cineplex
…give up the battle and buy Cap’n Crunch instead of Rice Chex
…care very deeply about family reunions and holidays
…talk non-stop about the baby’s first sentence phrase

You know you’re a mom when you…
…find hand-drawn, colored pictures waiting on the bed
…wake up weekend mornings to kisses on the forehead
…melt to the sound of giggles and pit-pattering feet
…hear a tiny voice say “I love you, mommy”, how sweet!

Funeral Rituals & Customs / Traditional Hmong Funerals
« on: January 11, 2012, 07:35:29 PM »
I am always fascinated with Hmong funerals. Here are some points I'd like to receive feedback.

- Would you say the traditional Hmong funeral is definitively a "religious" practice that is deeply-rooted with Shamanism? If so, how?
- Which parts are specifically religious and which are more cultural?
- What is the current perspective about the Order of Traditional Hmong Funerals compared to that of yesteryear?
- Do the Hmong take each part of the rites literally or figuratively?
- Has this perspective changed over the years? How did the Order of Traditional Hmong Funerals come about?

Thanks!
