aside from CPowell's points...money, or one with money (and lots of it).  a person with money creates power, that power creates and/or forces followers.  those followers will do almost anything for money.  in essence, if you don't have the skills of leadership, make sure you buy people's trust.

Trust, is about having trustworthy subordinates and leaders that you will never feel betrayed by your trust.

Just also keep in mind that military leadership is totally different from your normal civilian leadership in so many ways.  For example the aspect of UCMJ is what separates that trust nuance.
