Title: Walmart China recalls donkey meat after failing to monitor suppliers
Post by: proudlao on January 14, 2014, 07:45:00 AM
After US-based Walmart recalled the "Five Spice" donkey meat sold at its stores in Jinan in eastern China's Shandong province in early January, some insiders said that it showed the world's largest retailer does not monitor its suppliers, reports Beijing's Securities Daily.

Walmart recalled the donkey meat — a popular snack in some parts of China — after it was found to contain the cheaper priced fox meat.

The Shandong Food and Drug Administration confirmed that the product indeed contained fox meat, while an unnamed Walmart China spokesman said the company is now proceeding internal checks, but declined to comment further.
