Since no race of the perp is mentioned... It's safe to assume that it's not a white person.

Why would they just claimed it's an accident?

Why you pushed someone from behind, that's not an accident - it's on purpose. I get it if the person was running and not paying attention an accidently bump into the elderly person but that's not what happened.
