California sues Silicon Valley billionaire over Martins Beach public access

California officials on Monday sued a Silicon Valley billionaire who has fought for more than a decade to keep a popular beach to himself — a move to end one of the most intense and high-profile public access battles in the state.

Vinod Khosla’s attempts to control access at Martins Beach, a picturesque stretch of sand in San Mateo County, has become a cause célèbre for beachgoers across California and prompted a spate of lawsuits over the years by nonprofits and local groups that grabbed national headlines.

Now, the state is suing. The California State Lands Commission and Coastal Commission contend that, without court orders, Khosla will “continue to deny, impair and obstruct” the public’s right to use Martins Beach. The stakes are high and could set the stage for how other wealthy oceanfront owners across the state might fight to make a beach private.

“This case goes to the heart of California’s public access mandate,” said Steve Padilla, who chairs the Coastal Commission. “We cannot allow this to be chipped away each time someone purchases beachfront property — it’s a dangerous precedent for the future of public access in California.”

Rep. Duncan Hunter Resigns After Pleading Guilty To Stealing Campaign Donations

Rep. Duncan Hunter submitted his resignation Tuesday, about a month after the California Republican pleaded guilty to a federal charge of conspiring to misuse campaign funds.

In December, Hunter told his constituents in California’s 50th District that he was planning to announce his resignation from Congress “shortly after the holidays.” His resignation will be effective Jan. 13.

“Since the day I joined the Marines in the aftermath of 9/11, I have had the honor of serving my country, both at home and abroad,” Hunter wrote in his resignation letter. “After three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, I was elected to the House and brought with me the lessons I learned during my service in the Marine Corps and the values instilled by my father who held this seat before me. Growing up in East County San Diego, I learned from an early age the importance of liberty, the value of patriotism, and what a strong and secure border can bring to a community.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of California’s 50th District, and I greatly appreciate the trust they have put in me over these last 11 years,” he added.

Hunter and his wife, Margaret Hunter, were indicted in August 2018 on charges of misappropriati ng $250,000 in campaign donations for personal use, including to pay for luxurious family vacations, their children’s private school tuition, expensive meals and airfare for their pet rabbits. He also allegedly used campaign donations to fund his extramarital affairs.

The indicted Republican was reelected to his seat in the 2018 midterm race against progressive Democratic challenger Ammar Campa-Najjar, a candidate of Mexican-Palestinian descent whom Hunter attacked with racist campaign ads.

The congressman, an early supporter of President Donald Trump, initially pleaded not guilty in the corruption case and insisted that he was the victim of a politically motivated “witch hunt.” He claimed that the stealing was mainly his wife’s fault and also a bit of his son’s fault.

Margaret Hunter pleaded guilty in June to conspiring to misuse campaign funds and had agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in the corruption case.

Duncan Hunter eventually changed his plea to guilty on Dec. 3 on a single federal charge of conspiracy to misuse campaign funds. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, though his attorney has previously said that prosecutors agreed to recommend significantly less time. Sentencing is set for March 17.

Just days after his guilty plea, Hunter announced his plan to resign after the winter holidays without specifying exactly when that would be. Hunter’s salary as a congressman is $174,000 ― more than double his district’s average household income ― which breaks down to about $477 per calendar day. With his resignation effective Jan. 13, that means Hunter will have “worked” 41 days after pleading guilty to stealing donations, earning $19,557.

...for us Raiders fans this past regular season, he should win Rookie of the Year. And it's a rarity case because it focuses on dad instead of the usual mom story:

After growing up homeless, Raiders rookie Josh Jacobs buys his dad a house

The incredible story of Josh Jacobs going from calling a Chevy Suburban his childhood home while growing up with his father to becoming an NFL first-round draft pick has come full circle. After a highly successful rookie year that has him on the shortlist for Offensive Rookie of the Year, Jacobs has purchased his father, Marty, a house. Jacobs documented the presentation of the gift on social media. Marty could barely hold back the tears.

That is an incredible moment for anyone who is familiar with Jacobs’ story. As told to Yahoo Sports’ Kimberley Martin, Jacobs, Marty and four siblings bounced between couches, motels, temporary apartments and, for a time, their car while growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Jacobs grew up with so little that when he finally had a bed of his own in an Alabama dorm room, he found himself more comfortable sleeping on the floor. He called comfortable sleep on a bed a “surreal feeling.”

Now, Jacobs is giving Marty that same kind of feeling with the new family home in Stillwater, Oklahoma, per the Raiders.

Jacobs signed a four-year, $11.9 million contract with the Raiders after the team took him with the 24th overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He followed that up with a stellar rookie year, posting 1,150 rushing yards, 166 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per rush.

A couple hav been dating for a while and finally feel they are ready to have sex... That night the guy had a condom on and he knows that she's off birth control. They both talked about it n want to be responsible and prevent any sort of pregnancies.
In the middle of having sex, the man got up and took the condom off WITHOUT the girl knowing and he sorta finished inside her.....,,she thought he had a condom on the whole time and was just adjusting it... a month later she's pregnant... n the guy claimed it was an accident.

Okayyyy, so did he purposely wanted to impregnate her or was this truly an ACCIDENT???

Not sure if he purposely wanted to impregnate her but he purposely took off his condom so nope, not an "ACCIDENT"...

WHEN NATIVE AMERICANS ARE TOLD TO ‘GO BACK’ TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM

https://nativenewsonline.net/currents/huffpost-when-native-americans-are-told-to-go-back-to-where-they-came-from/

Lori Metoxen, 52, works as an administrator at Oneida Behavioral Health in Green Bay, Wisconsin, a treatment center for indigenous people suffering from addiction and mental illness. Metoxen says one beautiful summer day in 2017 she drove home from work with the windows down, the sunroof open, and her Oneida Nation license plate, available only to members of the tribe, proudly displayed on the back of her car. When she stopped at a traffic light in the part of western Green Bay that belongs to the Oneida Nation reservation, she noticed a car full of white, teenage girls in the lane beside hers.

“Go back to Mexico, you scumbag sack of shit!” one of the girls yelled at Metoxen.

Stunned, Metoxen remembers saying something like, “What is your problem?” to which the girl, after a string of profanities, replied, “You heard me, go back to Mexico!”

“The angriness of their voices was shocking to me,” Metoxen, a Native American who is not from Mexico, recounted to HuffPost. “They really needed to make somebody feel bad. What was the fun in that?”

After a few seconds, the light turned green and the white girls, all laughing, turned left. Metoxen drove straight, and as so often happens after incidents like these, she suddenly realized what she should have said.

“You go back to where you came from! I belong here!”
