Summer Walker accused of appropriating, sexualizing Hmong culture with provocative outfit

R&B artist Summer Walker is facing backlash for wearing an outfit to a performance at the Crypto.com Arena that repurposed a traditional Hmong necklace called a xuav for a revealing two-piece. Centuries ago, the Hmong people were enslaved by the Chinese and forced to wear necklaces for identification . After their independence, they designed a necklace called a xuav, meaning “chain,” in remembrance of the hardships of their past. Today, xuavs are worn during traditional celebrations as a poignant symbol of the Hmong identity. Many members of the Hmong community took to social media to voice their frustrations toward Walker and her designer’s alleged appropriation and sexualization of a sacred cultural accessory.

summer walker is wearing a xauv (hmong necklace) and basically made it into a two piece. this is literally culture appropriation. this is NOT how you should wear cultural hmong clothes. our pain and history is not for your cute LA stage outfit.

A 107-Year-Old Woman Says Living Alone and Never Getting Married Are The Keys to a Long Life

Some people preach that daily exercise and healthy eating are the key to living longer lives, but recently, a 107-year-old woman dropped some serious knowledge about how she reached her impressive age. The woman in question, Louise Signore, celebrated her 107th birthday this past weekend at the JASA Bartow Senior Center in the Bronx, and divulged her secrets: living alone and not getting married.

Louise repeated her advice to various news outlets, and it seems like she's been doing pretty well for herself.

"What's the best part of being 107?" an ABC7 news anchor asked.

"Not getting married," Louise replied.

Tesla to pay workers’ abortion travel costs after moving HQ to Texas

Tesla has committed to covering travel-related expenses for employees who are forced to go out of state to have an abortion after Elon Musk’s electric car outfit recently relocated to Texas, where the governor has vowed to outlaw the procedure.

Musk has been hailed by conservatives for his pledge to acquire Twitter and alter its content moderation policies as well as his stated desire to vote for Republican candidates, though his car maker’s abortion-friendly policy flies in the face of his rightward turn.

A farm feeding chickens with marijuana instead of antibiotics is fetching higher prices from consumers seeking organic poultry, researchers say

A farm in Thailand has started feeding its chickens with cannabis instead of antibiotics.

Researchers from Chiang Mai University say the experiment is showing positive signs.

The chickens are fetching double the usual price from consumers looking for organic poultry.

A farm growing medical marijuana in northern Thailand has been feeding its free-range chickens with cannabis instead of antibiotics, and researchers said the experiment has yielded promising results.

Researchers from Chiang Mai University's Department of Animal and Aquatic Sciences said fewer than 10% of the 1,000 chickens at the farm in Lampang have died since they introduced pot to the chickens' diet in January 2021.

This 18-year-old just raked in $700,000 of revenue selling Bored Ape toys — and NFT holders say the physical replicas reinforce their attachment to digital identities.

Even during a crypto bear market when non-fungible token sales are down, the price of one Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT still remains above six figures while Bored Ape holders party at Ape Fest and NFT.NYC this week.

But for all the hype around the digital assets, 18-year-old Ricky da Luz discovered how to tap into the space with physical items. A passionate toy designer, he began messaging Bored Ape NFT holders on Twitter, offering to make them toy replicas of their Apes for free.

Before launching IsmToys, he saved about $10,000 mowing lawns and used that capital to make the initial free toys to give to people in the Bored Ape community, da Luz told Insider at the NFT.NYC conference Thursday.

His first Bored Ape toy was commissioned in January for about $400. Fast forward today, and he is the founder of IsmToys, which he runs with his dad, Tony da Luz, and a team of six staff.
