I loaned my son thousands of dollars last year when he was out of work. Now he is spending lavishly, while we are struggling

Last year, I loaned my adult son several thousand dollars while he was laid off during the pandemic. Now he has returned to work, gotten a very good raise and received all of his retroactive unemployment benefits.

Meanwhile, we are struggling, unable to do home repairs and even had a cut in pay. While he is aware of all of this, he has not made any attempt or even mentioned his obligation to repay me but spends lavishly.

I am becoming resentful.

Bo Derek remembers her harrowing near-death lion attack on the set of 'Tarzan, the Ape Man'

As Tarzan's longtime companion, Jane Porter is no stranger to perilous animal encounters within the pages of Edgar Rice Burrough's popular novels or their many screen adaptations. But real life and reel life collided in dangerous fashion on the set of 1981's Tarzan, the Ape Man, starring Bo Derek as the King of the Jungle's better half. Released in theaters 40 years ago this month, the film includes a scene where Derek's Jane is attacked by a lion while bathing on a tropical beach. "I saw this gorgeous, young spectacular male lion and he just fixes on me," Derek recalls. "Not anyone else in our group, just me. They said, 'Oh, he's fresh from a zoo in Texas, but he's so sweet. You're going to love him.' And I said, 'I don't like the way he's looking at me.' You get that feeling on the back of your neck that you're prey — and that's the way he was looking at me."

Nigerian student shocked to see friend's body in anatomy class

Medical student Enya Egbe fled his anatomy class crying after being disturbed by the corpse he was asked to work on.

This was not the squeamish response of a naïve young man.

The 26-year-old still vividly recalls that Thursday afternoon seven years ago at Nigeria's University of Calabar, converging with fellow students around three tables with a cadaver laid out on each.

Minutes later, he screamed and ran.

The body his group had been about to dissect was that of Divine, his friend of more than seven years.

"We used to go clubbing together," he told me. "There were two bullet holes on the right side of his chest."

Oyifo Ana was one of the many students who ran out after Mr Egbe and found him weeping outside.

"Most of the cadavers we used in school had bullets in them. I felt so bad when I realised that some of the people may not be real criminals," Ms Ana said.

She added that early one morning she had seen a police van loaded with bloodied bodies at their medical school, which had a mortuary attached to it.

Mr Egbe sent a message to Divine's family who, it turned out, had been going to different police stations in search of their relative after he and three friends were arrested by security agents on their way back from a night out.

The family eventually managed to reclaim his body.

Family has baby shower for pregnant 12-year-old, her accused rapist, Oklahoma cops say

The family of a 12-year-old girl impregnated by a man twice her age “permitted” the relationship and even celebrated her pregnancy with a baby shower, according to Oklahoma police.

Police arrested 24-year-old Juan Miranda-Jara on a charge of first degree rape of a minor earlier this month, according to the Tulsa Police Department

Shortly after the young girl showed up to an area hospital pregnant, police said they were told she had possibly been raped. Investigators took Miranda-Jara into questioning and, as the girl was in labor, he admitted that the child was his, police say, and that he had been “in a relationship” with the girl since October 2020.

Buddy Hield Trade Rumors: Lakers, Kings Were 'Close' to Deal Before Westbrook Move

The Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly "close to the finish line" on a deal to acquire Buddy Hield before completing the trade for Russell Westbrook on Thursday, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Los Angeles was prepared to send Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell to the Sacramento Kings for Hield before shifting its focus to Westbrook. The team instead sent Kuzma and Harrell to the Washington Wizards along with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and a first-round pick for the star point guard and two future second-rounders, as first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

"The Westbrook deal came together fast," Lowe noted.

Bacon may disappear in California as pig rules take effect

A California law taking effect Jan. 1 could make pork harder to find and more expensive

Thanks to a reworked menu and long hours, Jeannie Kim managed to keep her San Francisco restaurant alive during the coronavirus pandemic. That makes it all the more frustrating that she fears her breakfast-focused diner could be ruined within months by new rules that could make one of her top menu items — bacon — hard to get in California. “Our number one seller is bacon, eggs and hash browns,” said Kim, who for 15 years has run SAMS American Eatery on the city’s busy Market Street. “It could be devastating for us.”

At the beginning of next year, California will begin enforcing an animal welfare proposition approved overwhelmingly by voters in 2018 that requires more space for breeding pigs, egg-laying chickens and veal calves. National veal and egg producers are optimistic they can meet the new standards, but only 4% of hog operations now comply with the new rules. Unless the courts intervene or the state temporarily allows non-compliant meat to be sold in the state, California will lose almost all of its pork supply, much of which comes from Iowa, and pork producers will face higher costs to regain a key market.
