‘MAGA Granny’ gets praise from netizens for declaring ‘will refuse a pardon from felon Trump'; Who is Pamela Hemphill?
Pamela Hemphill, a retired drug abuse counselor who supported Trump in 2016 and 2020, received a ticket to the “Stop the Steal” event.

After being detained for her involvement in the January 6 riot, a 71-year-old former “MAGA Granny” has turned against President-elect Donald Trump, stating that she would not accept a pardon if he fulfils the promise of clemency for many offenders.

Pamela Hemphill, a retired drug abuse counselor who supported Trump in 2016 and 2020, received a ticket to the “Stop the Steal” event and went inside the Capitol that day.

Later, the FBI released photos of the Idaho native inside the Capitol during the rioting.

Hemphill received a two-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to one felony count of parading, protesting, or picketing inside the Capitol building.

However, the grandma now refers to the MAGA movement as a “cult” and likens Trump to “his friend Jeffrey Epstein,”as per Daily Mail.

MAGA Granny declares ‘will refuse a pardon from felon Trump’
During his election campaign, Trump declared he would act “very quickly” on the first day of his office and give pardons to those accused of involvement with the attack.

“I will refuse a pardon from felon Trump!” Hemphill said on social media on Monday, demonstrating his lack of interest in the president-elect.

‘I feel stupid’: This Oklahoma father is facing foreclosure on his $70k home despite paying $665/month for 15 years — here’s why and how to avoid a similar nightmare
When Oklahoma father and business owner David Ortega signed a mortgage with Home Masters LLC 15 years ago, he thought he was buying his home from its rightful owner, and that his monthly payments would pay off the mortgage. He was wrong.

Turns out the owner of Home Masters LLC owed money on a pre-existing mortgage on the house, and no payments have been made on it since March 2024.

"I feel stupid for being bamboozled," Ortega said when interviewed by KFOR-TV Oklahoma City.

US special counsel report says prosecutors had enough evidence to convict Trump in 2020 election case

In a report to Congress released early Tuesday, special counsel Jack Smith said his office had sufficient evidence to “obtain and sustain” a trial conviction of President-elect Donald Trump for efforts to overturn Trump’s loss to President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

Smith said Trump “resorted to a series of criminal efforts to retain power” after it became clear that he had lost and that legal ways to challenge the results had failed.

“This included attempts to induce state officials to ignore true vote counts; to manufacture fraudulent slates of presidential electors in seven states that he had lost; to force Justice Department officials and his own Vice President, Michael R. Pence, to act in contravention of their oaths and to instead advance Mr. Trump's personal interests; and, on January 6 , 2021, to direct an angry mob to the United States Capitol to obstruct the congressional certification of the presidential election and then leverage rioters,” Smith said in his report.

Smith said Trump acted both in his private capacity as an election candidate, as well as with the help of multiple co-conspirators, and that Trump tried to use “the power and authority of the United States Government in furtherance of his scheme.”

The report further says that Trump’s false claims, such as votes being cast by large numbers of dead people or ineligible voters, or that voting machines had changed votes for Trump into votes for Biden, were “demonstrably and, in many cases, obviously false.”

Trump has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and attacked the special counsel’s work as politically motivated.

He responded to the report’s release early Tuesday with a post on his Truth Social platform calling Smith “a lamebrain prosecutor.”

“Deranged Jack Smith was unable to successfully prosecute the Political Opponent of his ‘boss,’ Crooked Joe Biden, so he ends up writing yet another ‘Report’ based on information that the Unselect Committee of Political Hacks and Thugs ILLEGALLY DESTROYED AND DELETED, because it showed how totally innocent I was, and how completely guilty Nancy Pelosi, and others, were,” Trump said.

Trump is set to be inaugurated for a new term next week after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. During the 2024 campaign, Trump denied he lost the 2020 vote, including in a September debate with Harris.

Tuesday’s report release came a day after U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon cleared the Justice Department to make public the portion of Smith’s report that dealt with Trump’s efforts to cling to power.

Judge Cannon, who was appointed by Trump, had earlier blocked the release of Smith’s full report, which also includes an unreleased section about accusations that Trump illegally retained classified documents after he left office.

Smith sought to prosecute Trump on both matters, while Trump denied wrongdoing.

Judge Cannon dismissed the classified documents case in July, ruling that Smith was illegally appointed.

The Supreme Court also ruled in July that presidents have broad immunity from prosecution for official acts, which blunted Smith’s efforts in the election interference case.

After Trump defeated Harris, the Justice Department dropped both cases against Trump, citing longstanding policy against prosecuting a sitting U.S. leader.

Hundreds of L.A. landlords hike rents to capitalize on 'desperate' fire evacuees

When California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency last Tuesday in response to the Los Angeles wildfires, it triggered a key protection for tens of thousands of evacuated Angelenos who suddenly need a new place to live — either because their homes have burned down or because their neighborhoods could be off-limits for months to come.

“Following a declaration of emergency,” the California attorney general’s office explained online, “the statute generally prohibits landlords from increasing the price of rental housing by more than 10% of the previously charged or advertised price.”

“It’s called price gouging,” Attorney General Rob Bonta added during a press conference. “It is illegal. You cannot do it. It is a crime punishable by up to a year in jail and fines.”

And yet L.A. landlords for at least 400 rental properties seem to have ignored Bonta’s warning as they seek to maximize profits in the midst of an ongoing disaster.

That number comes from a crowdsourced spreadsheet launched by housing advocate Chelsea Kirk of the Los Angeles Tenants Union — complete with addresses, Zillow links, dates of rent increases and exact pre- and post-hike prices.

Stories of price gouging have been circulating on social media and in news reports for days. But Kirk’s spreadsheet, which anyone can contribute to, is the most comprehensive source yet.

One of the more extreme examples is a 9,615-square-foot Tudor mansion in Bel Air that was listed for $29,500 a month in December — before reappearing last week for $39,000 a month. But more modest properties aren’t exempt. A 1,200-square-foot two-bedroom in Woodland Hills was listed for $3,900 in November; it’s $5,900 now.

Some of the properties cited in Kirk’s spreadsheet are no longer on the market; others have seen their prices lowered, presumably to comply with the law. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced Sunday that the city had launched “a new, simple intake system” to report price gouging.

“Call @MyLA311 to report illegally hiked rents and prices,” Bass posted on X. “We have no tolerance for it.”

But elsewhere, the gouging continues. On Monday, a “newly remodeled luxury home” appeared on Redfin for $25,000 a month. The price when it was last listed in December? $19,000 a month.

"People are desperate," one agent told LAist when asked why she instructed her clients to relist their home last week for nearly twice its previous price. "You can probably get good money."

Here's a 2016 article about the incentives Tesla can give back:

Tesla says it’s meeting hiring goals at Tahoe Reno Industrial Center battery plant

Electric car maker Tesla Motor Co. insisted Thursday it is meeting revised hiring goals at a giant northern Nevada battery manufacturing plant for which it has been promised $1.3 billion in state tax incentives.

In a statement disputing reports that it is behind in hiring, the Palo Alto, California-based company said construction started late, and state officials have said they are satisfied Tesla is meeting investment and job-creation benchmarks.

“We are on schedule with our production, hiring and investment numbers,” the statement said.

Concern about hiring came after the company this week received from the state $8 million in transferable tax credits, soon after an audit reported that just 331 jobs had been created at the Tesla industrial park along U.S. Interstate 80 east of Sparks.

Tesla projected in reports to state lawmakers who approved tax incentives in September 2014 that employment would reach 1,700 before January 2017.

The company statement said the audit was conducted almost six months ago, and the plant today employs more than 850 full time employees plus more than 1,700 construction workers.

It said that because construction didn’t begin “until almost 2015,” expectations should have been changed.

“Tesla expects to hire more than 1,000 additional full-time employees at the Gigafactory in the first half of 2017,” the company said.

Steve Hill, chief of Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval’s Office of Economic Development, also noted Thursday that hundreds of employees have been added since the audit in June.

“It is clear that Tesla is making great progress” on the lithium-ion battery plant, Hill said. When finished, it is expected to cover about 10 million square feet, or about the size of 262 NFL football fields. That will make it one of the largest buildings in the world.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the plant could employ 10,000 people in the next three to four years.

The Nevada state employment office is planning a Saturday job fair in Las Vegas with Panasonic Energy Corp. of North America to recruit employees willing to move to northern Nevada. Panasonic is a partner in the battery factory with Tesla
