College Life / Re: School Loans!!!
« on: October 03, 2012, 04:47:07 PM »
It's the cheapest loan you'll ever get.  I think, if you get a teaching credential and teach math or science, they will forgive your loans.  Look into that program.  Teach for a while after you graduate, then you're free to do what ever you like after that.  O0  The other thing to look into is the military.  They have something similar too. Otherwise, get a degree that will land you a high paying job so that you can pay it off.

No.  Govt grants don't need to be paid back.  Only govt backed loans need to be paid back.  But you see alot of that in Jr. Colleges and no name private colleges like Phoenix, Devry, etc.  You won't see much of that at the harder to get in universities with top reputations.  ;)

You guys forget, Steve Jobs bought Pixar for 10Million and then got Disney to buy it for over $7.4 Billion and effectively made Jobs the decision maker at Disney. Wow.

I tried watching that show on netflix.  Haven't made it through one show in just one sitting.   :sleepy2: :sleepy1:

No wonder they only have 3 episodes per season.   ;D

I thought net books were out and iPads were the new fad?  But I wouldn't buy a netbook.  I'd just go for a laptop.

CCNA or Network+? Which do you think is more worthwhile? CCNA is specific to Cisco equpments and uses their lingo, while Network+ is more broad. Thoughts of why one over the other?
if I had to choose, I'd go for CCNA.  It's more applicable.  Network + is just a general cert and doesn't really weigh much when managers need technicians to work o n their Cisco devices.

PM Yax...he's a guru.
sorry, I've stopped doing the certification thing for a while now.  It's great when you're a consutant, because that's what clients look for since they have no other measurement tool to grade you by. I say go for it.  Get as many certs as you can and keep updating them until you've had enough years of field experience.  Nowadays, I doing management.  I still do some technical work every now and then, but most of the time I just let my staff do the technical stuff.  My job now consists of mostly of decision making, planning, scheduling and leading.  I like it though.  It pays more and it's less stress when you know what you're doing.

Funeral Rituals & Customs / Re: the costs of hmong funerals
« on: September 22, 2012, 03:41:46 PM »
Total for my father was roughly around 20+ grand.

$16K (including the 3 days rental and a coffin)
$2K for foods and things
1K for rental of some equipments
$3K for the double plot (my sister paid for this out of her pocket)
(I'm not including the cow because that's out of people's expenses).

We got only 8K back because we had not family members here in MN and only a few could fly to attend the funeral. Before my father passed away, he said to give each of us $500.00, $200 to all his nieces and one sister. The rest are to pay for those who has come to help us...
only 3 days ST?
