Title: Pacific fish
Post by: Reporter on August 25, 2021, 12:19:13 PM
We braved the waves and foggy morning this Sunday on the side of Monterey, California. Our boat went at 60 mph for two hours into the Pacific Ocean. We dropped our lines down to 250 feet to 300 feet with squid baits and caught these.

I have to figure out how to cook them now. Never had them before.

Should have cooked it on Sunday evening but the vermillion cods will still bring a nice taste to the buds.

There's something called ling cot? Not sure of the spelling. But that one is the longest of them all.

A 1K trip to take back just 14 tiny fish. :2funny: :2funny:

Lingcod, sharp narrow teeth. It will be delicious too and they can grow to a good size.

Sounds like regrets? If you hooked into a tuna or a sea bass(in season now at where you fished out of), maybe your time here may have improved?

Fish in the morning, flight by evening; make more time next time. You probably spent equivalent time going to and from locations of fishing than actual fishing time.

The only regret was I didn't plan for a longer stay.

My lead told me to go back next year between April and June for better catches and we'll be heading to the delta for stripers and sturgeons, too. I'm up for it.

Got one lingcod in my freezer now. We caught only three. The other two were way below 22 inches.

I saw dorsal fins of sharks and dolphins in the foggy ocean surface. Several sea lions, too.

April-June, you’ll be catching the same thing. Right now: king salmon, sea bass, tuna, etc. as for sturgeon, the cold months and for striper, springs and falls for peak performances in the delta.

Speaking of "TROLL", I'll just let these neutral PH members' words do the talking:

hmgrock you're the biggest troll i swear... i honestly don't think your online persona is real other than to troll..

Bro HR,

I called you a negative nancy.  I also said INO is a day trade because of the volatility.  At least get your information right.

If you are here to help people, why are you the biggest troll in this forum?  In addition to being the biggest troll, you don't even understand trading.

They make great soups, etc. Yummiest beyond belief. Plus, fresh and can even be eaten raw because they are salt-water fish. The Japanese might recommend that.

You are just not used to eating them. I'm willing to try anything new that's edible.

Not eating those...don't look right to me. I'm sticking to white bass..

Bro, you don't know us Asians? We don't eat just the meats; we eat the bones. And those who are good at preparing them, they entrails, too.

Doesn’t look like much meat in those fish.

Yep, agree. And sure opinions can vary when it comes to subjective things like taste but gotta try first in order to make an educated opinion for oneself..Other wise, it's just assumptions and guessing.. O0

True never had them before.  Reminds me of those "before" and "after" sort of things.  Perhaps I shouldn't see the "before" and only see the "after" then maybe I might taste and see.. but now that I've seen the "before", I might have to taste w/ my eyes closed and jus let my taste buds do the talking and go from there.

Good for you Dok!  O0

I know a someone that said, the idea of papaya salad is gross and the idea of adding fish sauce makes it worst but he's never tasted it.

Once he actually tried it, he likes it so that's why I say in order to form an educated opinion on taste, one has to actually try it not just guess based on the way it looks or smells..
