There are many stories about the orphan boy.
I think one of the popular orphan story is the one where the orphan go to a place where there were a bear, wild cat, and tiger talk having a secret meeting. There the three reveals the location of gold. The orphan took the gold and became wealthy.

I remember the story about a husband died and was bury outside/inside (depending which version you were told) and becomes a tiger to eat the wife and children. In some version the tiger ate one of his children, in others he didn't. And of course the husband was killed by a gun when he start counting the star in the water.
There is a similar version about the tiger and husband. In this version the tiger kills the husband when he was hunting. The tiger took the form of the husband. In some version it's a tiger wearing the husband clothes. Anyway the children and wife learn about the tiger when they spotted the tiger's tail. How the tiger was kill? I recall the tiger got jab by a water buffalo horns.

Since Hmongsters from FB mentioned the story of Yer and the Tiger, I remember that story now. My mother's story somehow similar to it.
Other Hmong Folktales my mother used to tell from different perspectives:
- The Promise or Lus Cog Tseg
- Nu Nplaim thiab Ntxawm
-
Different versions of maum plis (Cinderella), and tub ntsuag (orphan boy) are the ones that come to mind.

Yes, Hmong has a Cinderalla sort of, but she doesn't have glass slippers nor went to the ball and ran away at midnight - heck we didn't have clocks. It's just about her struggles against some mean step-mother and step-sisters. However cuz she's been nothing but a dutiful and faithful daughter in law, that somehow her spiritual mom came back to help her go to prince's future bride selection. Yeah, her spiritual mom saved her a special dress in a jar or big pot, hidden in the ground under the fire pit or something like that. So anyway when she went to the bride selection thing, she caught the favor the prince - cuz her dress was so Hmongliness like a beautiful butterfly- LOL.
