A Cycle We Must Break

I just want to be strong for my family
Like so many Hmong boys before me
I learned from my father as my father learned from his
We lack the skill to communicate
As to open up is a sign of weakness
So no matter the weight
I alone chose to shoulder the burden
As I believe it was the role of Hmong men

My judgement clouded by my pride and ego
Too blind to see how I made you feel
I projected my frustrations at you
Said and done things I wish I can undo
Instead of tackling our problems at the source
I casted you aside when I most needed your support

I was a Hmong boy, now a man
This time I will treat you right
If you can love me again
Value you more than just my wife
But a friend, a companion
My equal, someone I can confide in

I hate Hmong girls
They got me like woah
Their perfect shade of color lips
Mesmerized as I watch on and on
The way their dress move with their hips
As they dance to Hmong love songs

You know you got my attention
But always keep me wondering when
When will you be mine
Shots to the heart
As I hear a Hmong girl's favorite line
I only like you as a friend

It's more like welcome back, I joined in 2012. I only joined because of the Ghost Stories and Poetic Souls thread. But thank you for reading it

. Nice short poem there though. You can't worry about tommorow if you're still living in your past.

These emotions aren't current but like a scar, it may heal, you may not see or feel it anymore, it will still be there. Maybe years from now I can come back and read my poems and laugh about how corny and depressed I was.

The once so happy memories
Comes back and haunt me
Flashbacks emerge as nightmares
Replaying the old times that we shared
As loneliness robs me of my sleep
In the endless night filled with unheard weeps
I've embarked my sorrow into tears
Like the raging waves in the ocean
I cannot hold back my emotions
