Yeah, first cast, first fish...
Well every year we go chase them somewhere...hi t or miss.
Miss - Stillwater power plant - no water discharge. Ah well, at least the gate is open. Go see for yourself.
-
Thanks for the report, VH. But in the past I've caught only cats, sheep heads, and smallmouths there.
-
What about them shads? LOL, technically end up snagging them mostly instead of catching them. I think I've only caught like two or three shads with hook in the mouths in my lifetime.
When those shads run, the cats come in for easy feasting on the dead and dying ones. I haven't caught any sheepshead in the power plant spillway. Caught sunnies and crappies here and there as well. An occasional Northern Pike.

I've caught so many sheepshead that I had thought those are the only fish there. lol
I could see pikes coming there. Sunnies? Yeah. But crappies? Hm...Huge ones, huh?

Well I've only caught little ones, not worth keeping in that warm water discharge.

I don't remember keeping any fish from there, just because the plant at that lighthouse makes it so unclean.
I've taken fish from the draw bridge farther up though. Cats, white bass, and even sheepshead. Lots of people fishing for sturgeons there some years ago.

Wow, people purposely fishing for sturgeons illegally. I guess I don't fish often enough or know the spots where people do that.

Awesome day, but no fish biting. I guess low water level has got fish confused. Water is also more clear, and no plankton bloom nor insect hatch. That might change pretty quick in the next few days. Give it a week, no hurry.
-
And then...took my boy to go fishing cuz he kept asking. We did not catch anything at a local lake. Saw some Hmong bass fishing on purpose and they caught a few large mouth bass - released.
He got kind of bored...but is hopeful for next time he will catch that bass. Cuz he caught them before last year and year before that.
We saw carps jumping and he kind of got excited over that.

No bucket... And the fish were biting like crazy... Figure's.
-
Crappies?
-
oh them St. Croix white bass...morning feed binge. ;D
They're filet and chilling in the fridge. A little pan fry fish tonight.

Were you at the power plant?

Catfish...yumm . :D
I usually wait till May-June to bait for catfish.
-
The water level on the St.Croix is up almost a foot, so the fish has changed location again...good luck on timing or finding new location.
-
Yep. Water is way low this year on the Croix.
-
Why do some Hmong boaters have to always compete with us shore fishing folks... :idiot2:
Fishing must be that bad.

Catfish? Catfish?!??!
Im not down with catfishes!
I get mad when I pull up the pole and it's a catfish
