Title: So I picked up the s2000...
Post by: thePoster on August 23, 2015, 06:06:36 AM
Only 22k miles on it, 2004 model

Anyways, it's a whole lot faster than the civic si in acceleration, it accelerates smoother and quicker and to be honest, with the top up, it's not that noisy inside....or maybe I'm just use to my noisy teggie (due to the motor mounts vibration)

Tell you what, with the top up.. you can forget about blind spot visibility!  It's quite scary!  Top down.. .is pretty awesome though.  I'll give my in-depth review later.  What I like, don't like...

But I will say... comparing gearbox's...

Teggie first, S2000 second, Civic Si... way way way way way way a distant third.

I might get some hate from the s2000 owners here... but well... the teggie still feels better as far as gearbox...

Maybe Im not use to the gearbox yet in the S.

In the teggie, when you're gear, you know you're in gear and when you're off the gas, you know you're off the gas, and when you got the clutch in, you know you got the clutch in, there's no second guess you're good to change gear and there's no second guessing that you're in gear or not when you throw it into the gear. It's really confidence inspiring especiall when you're doing redline shifts.

The s2000... yes I only drove it for about only 2 hours total.. and I haven't shifted at redline yet, I only hit vtec once...  and like I said, maybe I'm not use to it but... Going from 1st to 2nd... is not confidence inspiring... It feels like I'm not into gear yet, but I'm actually am in gear.. 3-6 is no problem... it's just that 1st to 2nd... sometimes first doesn't like to go in.. it'll grind.. maybe I'm doing it wrong!  Maybe I just need to change the Transmission fluid.  Anyways... I doubt there's anything wrong with the tranny since it's only got 22000 miles on the car.  I'll change the transmission fluid and see how things are after that!  If not... well the car did come with a 48k mile powertrain warranty!  I will definitely take it in after 2 years and have them look it over!

Now the Civic Si?  we won't even talk about that gear box.. .it's atrociouos, well maybe the gear box is allright but all the stuff that makes it not shine... just makes you feel like the gear box is atrocious... shifting fast at redline?  Forget it.  It'll never happen without a grind or keeping the clutch in for a couple seconds before going into gear... sometimes it won't even go into gear.

Ranking of the car's I had gear box's, as far as confidence inspiring going into gears.

1.  2001 Integra GSR
1.  1995 Integra GSR
2.  1991 CRX Si
2.  2008 Civic Si(Not mine, actually my other brother's/Car was Flashed Pro-ed to get rid of hang rev which appearantly what my 2011 had causing it's shifting to suck and amsoil transmission fluid)
3.  1991 Nissan NX2000(Not actually mine, my brother's)
3.  1991 Honda Prelude Si
4.  2001 Honda Prelude SH
5.  2004 Honda S2000
6.  2011 Honda Civic Si.

Obviously this list could change the longer I drive the S2000 and figure out it's shifting characteristic s... but that's it for now.  Yes a lot of the top ranking have longer throws but... I never had to think twice when I was/still am shifting with them.

Rank your cars!

Shifting in the 2011 Civic was so... annoying.. You just didn't know if it'd go in or not... I could never drive that engine the way it needed to be.

Congrats!

It should be "faster" than the Civic SI based on specs alone....

In case you are not aware, don't be surprised if gay men hit you up for a test drive as verts are their vehicle type of choice...nothi ng wrong with that, just saying..

Enjoy the new ride!

I'll do a pic with the teggie

I need to do a side by side race to see which is faster.

Congrats on the S2000.  No need to drag race it unless you want to see where you stand. They're slow, but fun for track.

I can tell you that the "teggie" will lose based on specs unless you add steroids to it. Even the Integra Type R is slower than the S2000...

Careful lauching the S2000 though, heard it has a weak OEM differential.. .

I'm not racing that thing.

I got it for the drop top and A/C.  That's about it.

Congratz enjoy that s2k.. it sure is something of its on a different level then the teggie.

But if you do want a little of adreneline rush then join the 10sec Honda Club with a nice cbr. ;D ;)

I haven't even pushed that thing to the max yet and I probably won't till i'm comfortable with the gearbox.  Maybe I was expecting too much!  It's not like butter!  Not yet anways, I'll see how it is after I change the tranny and diff fluid on Wednesday.  I tell you what, the teggie is like butter, if I can get the s2k feeling like that... then well!  It'll be an awesome car.

The power comes on different in the s2k.  Maybe because it's RWD?  and it's more?

As far as handling wise goes.. right now..even thought I haven't pushed the s2000 to it's maxed yet, they feel about the same believe it or not.  It could use better tires.. it's riding on mud and snow tires..   cheezez...

I don't think I'll ever do motorcycle, that's just too dangerous in my opinon!

Dang!  I just got a chance to change out the diff fluid.. and it was disgusting, like nobody changed it since it was bought.

Dark, blackish gray, and thick.

Threw some Honda MTF in there as well.

It's shifting a bit better.  Not close to "smooth as butter" like the teggie yet.. but hopefully I can get it there.

May try some other different type of MTF and Diff fluid in the short future.

There it is with my teggie.  I thought sitting my teggie was low... its even lower in the s2k, when I sit in the teggie now, it feels like I'm sitting so high... but the teggie is actually really low!

Current mileage... not over 23k yet

I don't plan on modding this thing.... except maybe a K&N FIPK and an AUT.

Those FiPK sound nice and I'm sure that AUT would help a little bit.

But I will still say.. the teggie still handles better for some odd reason, maybe it really is all the suspension upgrades... it takes curves really flat.

The s2k on it's stock suspension ... well tends to lean more than teggie...

Oh wells, that's how stock suspension is I guess.

Post by: thePoster on September 11, 2015, 09:30:29 PM
The only thing the stock s2000 is blowing the doors off the teggie is the acceleration and top speed and straight line acceleration.

It's a shame this s2000 will stay pretty much stock as the teggie as of now corner's flatter and faster..  :S

Oh wells!  Maybe I'll get a junkie cheap s2000 someday and mod it up.

I never thought all that light suspension modding would do anything and never felt like it did anything as it was the only car I had at the time and just driving it here and there you don't really feel a difference as they are all gradual as you put parts on here and there...  just like with power adders...

Unless you can compare it back to back with the same stock car, you won't notice any change and if you do, you'll wonder if it's just all perception.

But having some cars to drive the teggie back to back with ....the prelude, the civic si, and now the s2000, everytime I drive the teggie, I'm always like "man! the teggie handles so much better!"  Body roll pretty much is non-existent.  I want all my car's to have no body roll.  That's how I like them.

I might need to get a stock GSR so I can do back to back comparison's.
Title: Re: So I picked up the s2000...
Post by: Sifu on September 12, 2015, 09:03:59 AM
Dude, there's very little comparison between a purpose built sports car and a FWD econobox with some fast bit parts.  The S2000 was made to near end for what you paid for.  High zinging engine, RWD, lightweight in mind, tire choice, suspension pickup points are proper.  Out of the box it will run circle over a Type R.  Upgraded rubbers and brake pads would be enough for most drivers.

If the prices keep dropping even I may dip into the S2000 pool.
Title: Re: So I picked up the s2000...
Post by: thePoster on September 12, 2015, 02:07:56 PM
Dont get me wrong, I live my s2000 but I have both cars so driving them back to back, I can immediately see the differences.

The s2000 is wearing some mud and snow tires.  Upgrading those would absolutely be ideal.  But even then, it's still going to have body roll.

Wrong, S2000 is one of the stiffest chassis you can get.  It held world records @ tsukuba circuit & world time attacks with 500-600hp cars.

I guess there is only one way to solve this...

I'll have to clone myself and race myself.

Who else to and could beat me.... except for me!

I don't have a type R(could've, but thanks to not listening to myself I didn't have one) but I do have a GSR, it's obviously not as stiff as a type R and lacking a LSD...only stiffening is a re-inforced subframe to run a type R rear sway bar.

The S2000 on the other hand... Built from the ground up as a sports car, some would say perhaps a race car for the road on a sunny day.  In any case, it has a stiff body and designed that way.  I know that already.  Actually really quick and responsive from my experiences dodging potholes.

Which will be the victor?!?!
S2000 vs semi-track prepped teggie.
Will "stiffness" play a role?
Will the driver play a role?  since the driver doesn't really have any real track experience at all and no s2000 experience at all to really bring out the potential of the s2000 as well as the teggie.

Since I'll be versing myself, driver skill is the same for both cars so there will be no driver's advantage.

I need to get one of those solo lap timers.  The only problem is getting both car's to the track.  Oh wells.

If I can get the idle to idle right in the teggie, I'll get a tune this weekend, if not, maybe next weekend, there is an open track day on the 3rd of October... so that is the date to log in.

It's tough being your own race team.

A clip of my horrible dented up headers... I guess I won't be able to drop my car again ever...

It's a shame... as you can see... pretty much there was maybe if I'm lucky... 10 percent flow on those two exhaust collectors.

I don't know how it got dented like that.. but it got dented so you can actually pinch the metal.

Dude?  Why clone yourself.  One is enough.  Just go load up like Sony's Gran Turismo series and modify it that way.  Then get a car wash for a cleaner aero package and spend the 3000 units for an oil change (good for like 50hp) and rebuild the chassis at like 100k.  I think that will make it accurate.

True, doesn't make much sense to compare an economy car (Integra) to a higer end sporty roadster (S2K)...

Been getting a lot of comments on the car.  Random strangers saying the like it.  Just today, a fellow s2000 owner followed me back to my parking.  I didn't know who he was.  He just followed me and pulled up and started talking to me.  He was an old guy, probably 65+.  He said these cars are luxury.  I dont know how luxurious they are though.

Anyways, one of the funniest comment I had was some little kids was pointing and yelling at my car "oh ma gawd!!  It's a Ferrari!  Look look! A Ferrari!"

Cracked me up.

Like gay men, "older" men also like vert. When I owned my Vette, I've seen many older guys driving the vert model. I've never liked vert regardless of year, model, or type. I prefer T or glass-top when giving the option. Oh women loves vert too.

As far as the "comments" go, yeah you're not going to get it driving an economy car like the Integra which is why it caught you by suprise with the S2K now.

Sorry to hear but that's exactly why dropping a car is not practical for many unless they use that car strictly at the track or only drive on smooth even surfaces.

Oh, I get comments on the teggie too.

It's usually from the younger crowd.  The 'tuner" crowd... if it's an older guy... he usually owns some type of sports car and knows about the integra type R and either mistakens it for the type R or knows about it's sibling the GSR.

The S2000 gets comments from the same crowd as well as well as the older non-tuner folks who just likes nice cars and nice things.

Like that guy in the ap1, he was an older guy... not into tuning or anything, he just likes nice things... I still think it was funnie when he said 'it's luxury!"... it s definitely not a luxurious car.  More of a sports car.  It's not quiet, the ride is not smooth over bumps... but the dude love his car.  He liked the vert top.

People can have that stigma with vert owners all they want... until someone drives a vert.. they wont understand how nice it feels with the top down... a sunroof, moonroof, targa top, t-top just doesn't compare.

The S2K is definitely more "luxurious" than the average car i.e., Carolla, Civic, Integra, etc., when looking at the same year.

Vert is not a "stigma", it's a preference so nothing wrong with prefering vert. I used to own a Wrangler TJ hard top and after driving it with the cover and doors off, the vert option of it is not for me. That was the only time I drove the Wrangler with the top off during my 2 plus years of ownership. I prefered the glass top of my Vette over a vert.

There's nothing wrong with personal preferences. The key is do what's right for you.

Therefore, if you want a vehicle brand/type that is preferred by Asians i.e., Civics, Accord, Camry, Integra, etc., just get it even if you're not Asian.

And same goes for convertibles, even if it's preferred by "old man" or women, if it's for you, just do it as there's nothing wrong with that.

I did consider the Z roadster, but when I drove it, the car felt flimsy. I wanted to take the car to the track every once in a while too so the S2000 was better. With boost the S2000 also has more potential. I am considering an old man C6 Z06 targa top now.  lol.

I did consider the Z roadster, but when I drove it, the car felt flimsy. I wanted to take the car to the track every once in a while too so the S2000 was better. With boost the S2000 also has more potential. I am considering an old man C6 Z06 targa top now.  lol.

Just do it man! Get that Z06. There are some truth in the line: "There's no replacement for displacement"...Oh highway MPG is pretty good too for a V-8. My old C5was getting close to 30 MPG on the highway when in 6th gear cruising at 70 MPH.

Yea, I got a chance to drive my buddy's C5 Z06 around for a bit and it was pretty nice.  He dumped the Z06 for a wide body single turbo Supra(which I also drive but didn't like).  I believe he is considering the new C7 Z06.  I like the C6 Z06 and they aren't too bad around the track either.  Anyhow, for me it be more for cruising, traveling and occasional track.   O0
