Post by: hmgROCK on April 25, 2018, 02:19:00 PM
my bro in law call asking me to help them with some bills.
Says the rent is about to be due and some other bills as well.
and need money for food also
that they have no money, and if i don't help
they going end up living under the bridge next week

my financial situation is stable so I thought i help them.
I give them $1000
that weekend when i saw them at the shaman party
they were wearing brand new NIKE shoes

If their situation is legit, no money is enough to save a life.

Money you can replace.  Health and happiness, you can not.

My boy still owes me money.  I consider it as a free gift cuz I will not lose sleep if he doesn't pay me back.  I don't haggle for it either.  By giving, I have already proven myself to my self worth.  It is up to dude to show me his true face or self worth.  At least he made the notion to remind me that he still owes me money.  Whether he pays or not, that I do not know.  One thing for certain, I know he will not ask for a second loan.  I'm glad too cuz I hate lending money because I know how that story gonna go down.

Lending money to save a man I will.  Lending money so you can gamble or blow it on drugs, eff you and I will tell it your face too.

They could be telling the truth. With the money you gave them, they had enough money to pay the bills and for food, so using their money they bought the new shoes.

I'm sure they see his failures first hand. I mean he claimed to be the "hmong Nostradamus" and is "always right" so why not just get the money from the lotto/powerball/scratchers/casinos....can get much more, it's much easier than investing, and way faster...towar ds the "hmong millionaire" goal..

My thought had always been....if you give money to family to "borrow", never expect for it to be paid back. Consider it a gift.

As much as I love family, giving them money when they fall behind on their bills is NOT teaching them to survive in America's economy or be self-sufficient. It might seem cruel to say no but it's probably the better route to take. Everyone should live within their means and always plan to have some savings set aside for situations like this. You can't rely on family to get you caught up on debts/bills.

What do you think of that other PHer's husband who steals her dad's car parts and other family items and sells them for money? :2funny: :2funny:

I don't mind helping people I know and care about but if they can't keep their end of the bargain, the next time they ask me for help again, I'll remind them to pay me back what they owe me first before I can even consider helping them again.
