Will a universal basic income plan work? A California town is testing it out

STOCKTON, Calif. – Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang wants to give cash to every American each month.
Susie Garza has never heard of Yang. But since February, she’s been getting $500 a month from a nonprofit in Stockton, California, as part of an experiment that offers something unusual in presidential politics: a trial run of a campaign promise, highlighting the benefits and challenges in real time.
Garza can spend the money however she wants. She uses $150 of it to pay for her cellphone and another $100 or so to pay off her dog’s veterinarian bills. She spends the rest on her two grandsons now that she can afford to buy them birthday presents online and let them get the big bag of chips at the 7-Eleven.
“I’ve never been able to do that. I thought it was just the coolest thing,” said Garza, who is unemployed and previously was addicted to drugs, though she said she has been sober for 18 years following a stint in prison. “I like it because I feel more independent, like I’m in charge. I really have something that’s my own.”

So this woman isn't investing the money to have long-term financial security?
Paying a cellphone, keeping a pet that she can't afford, buying gifts for children who will only outgrow them when she should open a savings account for them instead?
This woman proves why Universal Basic Income will be just another expensive welfare program. The money will soon run out but people's bad spending habits won't and they will only demand more $$$$.
Andrew Yang UBI = OPERATION FAIL
This is why people stay permanently poor. Spend on the stupidest sh.it instead of savings and investing for rainy days and the long haul. Then they blame those who actually learned to conserve and manage money.

(Of course we would, we'd just eat more)"

If I had that extra money, my children will be well fed, wear better clothes, have more supplies for school and most of all, I probably will have to work less and actually spend more time with my children. If nothing else, that money will be saved and invested for their future.

One would think that the first thing a person who doesn't have a lot money would do is try to save that money, make it last longer, or find a way to make it grow. But NOPE, this Garza woman is going to spend it right away without knowing if it's the last time cash will come her way. :idiot2:

I think the whole idea of giving people free money is for them to pump all of that money back into the system.
When everyone takes part in making the money flow, the economy is suppose to take care of itself. Everyone gets payed. If the money flows but we get "lechers" saving, by the time that same money goes back to you, it becomes less. No problem, the "agency" is suppose to pick up the tab and pump more money back into the system.... just to have a few "leeches" save it and make the value of the dollar disappear into thin air... like convert it into bitcoin or buying into underground activities where the "agency" can not get a head count of her coins.
Instead of giving out cash aid, give them a card that they must use it or lose it. No saving allows but crooks will be crooks and will find another loop hole.

No duh, consumerism helps the economy. However, how does it help generational poverty?
If we're going to talk about helping the rich get richer, say no more! UBI. Give the poor money so they can spend on things that rich people own and make the rich richer.
This is why Asians outbeat Democrap policies all the time. We Asians would save that money, invest it, and find ways to make it grow. Blacks and Hispanics spend and wonder decades later why they're doing worse in the country despite many of them having been here longer. It's like public education. Public school is actually making them dumber but an Asian kid who attends the same low-income district be graduating with a doctorate degree in a high-paying field.
Here's why: black and Hispanic kids go to school to learn about social studies shit like civil rights. Asian kids go to school to learn math and science skills. Same thing at the college level. Black kids be majoring in human studies sh.it that will teach how to be a community organizer (s.hit stirrer in other words). Asians major in hard sciences and health that help them obtain jobs with high-paying wages.
And YOU'RE WRONG. Yang's hope is that people will use the money to get ahead. Maybe someone will feel comfortable leaving their 9-5 job to start their own business or invest back into their communities and he didn't say anything about buying lavish sh.it.
SOME OF YOU PROBABLY HAVE NOT WATCHED MANY ANDREW YANG INTERVIEWS. And if you do it is with libtard interviewers.

Crooks finding loop holes? You mean like them welfare recipients trading their checks for cash?

So much for crying "I will stop reading what you write"...That cry is a good as YAK's "ignore" cry and the EPIC FAIL's "one last thing" cry... ;D ;D ;D

Andrew Yang has the right mind and right attitude...sad ly the world and its people are not capable of handling such vision.

I think it's a good idea especially if that money were only supposed to go toward people that need the extra money because of their geographical location and lack of employment/opportunities. Stockton is pretty much in that category. That money will only improve needy people's lives but will not transform or grow the cities economy.

They need to bring back basic education programs like they did in the 80s. Basic math, science, and business fundamentals. Put those people on projects and have them report on their progress. As a nation, as a human we have to get smarter. We need fresh ideas to propel us into the next century. Our minds are the only thing that is going to break us free from this struggle.

Why would you invest if there's always money coming in and it won't ever run out?
See the voters' logic there?

Does that mean you not going take social security at 62???
Ever?

The UBI or Freedom Dividend is a GREAT Idea. $1K/month is just how much I pay tax to the Govrm't every month. If I can get $1K back every month, it will help a whole lot.

That's what I'm saying. Most poor people do not use extra cash, if given to them, to invest for the long run. They would immediately spend it. This is why some people stay permanently poor and it becomes generational. They eventually outspend themselves. Soon, even an extra $1,000/mo. is not enough for them as they will demand $2,000/mo. Society cannot continue to bear the burden of these people.

Isn't public money meant to be spent and not invested? You'd be penalized for investing it, correct?
Having free money doesn't mean one cannot keep working on the side.
