I just purchased 10k dollars worth of Domestic Index Funds through Fidelity (FNILX) in case you're wondering. I plan on dropping another 20k on Index International and/or Bond Funds. Any advice?

That's the risk I'm willing to take. Historically, come every election year the market trends downward. I regret not purchasing these funds back in March. I would have been a few thousands of dollars richer had I. Plus, 30k isn't going to set me back that much considering I have over 100k just sitting in the bank not generating a whole lot of dividends. :'(

It's always good to put money into savings, especially in several different accounts.
So, haven't you heard lately? Someone did something and had hmgRock muted. He's mad and has decided to abandon PH entirely.

the rule of the game is to pay ZERO TAX/ as little as you can (like trump $750)
that mean you need to be opening tax advantage account AKA
1. ROTH IRA ($6k for you, and $6k for your spouse)
2. maxing your 401k ($19,500... talk to your HR to increase your percentage)
3. 529 plan (your kids college fund)
4. HSA (health saving plan)
5. whatever tax advantage your state or workplace has...too many
than you open a regular taxable brokerage account
$FNILX track the s&p500 <<<< you want to put more money in here $20k
than $10k interntal, $3-4k bond
$FNILX.... is great, but it contain large cap stock
big name like apple and etc...
you still need MID and SMALL cap too
i buy $FZROX personally myself
it's a total market index. over 2k+ stock and company
big, mid, small cap

the total market index tend to do a little bit better
it's those SMALL and MID cap stock that tend to growth bigger
both are good

$FNILX is fidelity verison of the S&p 500. they also have another one too
lots of brokerage have their S&p500 verision

they pretty much the same with a few tracking error but still around the same range

max out those ROTH IRA
i've been playing this game for a long time now
$FNILX is mutual fund (meaning it trade at the end of the day, you enter a fix $amount or whatever)
ETF are kinda like mutual fund, but trade like stock throughout the day (don't need to wait till the end of the day)
many brokerage have their own s&p500 verision ETF/mutual fund
you can trade SPY, it's large cap

becareful putting $20k into international index
and $10k into domestic
i will go 100% domestic
i don't know if you do alot of traveling
but once you leave the US and start going out to other country
people will be trying to scam and dime you
there's alot of corruption and insider trading
yess..... the USA has corruption too like that senator that was trading those COVID news
but it not as bad as other country
I bribe those thailand airport security so they won't go through my stuff

those are unrealized gain/losses
just paper money
once you sell them
you going get hit with short/long term capital gain tax
that's why i told you, to be maxing out your tax advantage account
because those are tax free

You need to be emotional prepared when it drop

That $FNILX fund can only be purchased at fidelity
Cuz thats their own version
When you make an account
You need select the right account
Or UNCLE SAM TAX MAN IS GOING COME FOR YOU
ROTH IRA<<< you need to select and max this account first
Call fidelity of the mistake you made
