Smelts can get big. I've caught some good sized ones before. I just never kept them. Don't taste very good. Most of the ones I've caught were at least a foot long.
But I hear ND white bass tastes better than WI's?

Why you trying to go there for whitebass??
I think its $48 for non resident fishing in North Dakota
Thats a killer fee for me
Im dirt cheap
I guess you can get the 3 days
But still that expensive
You better off buying it off the store
Fishing..... nothing is given
I make it look easy... cuz im a PRO
Individual Season Fishing* - nonresidents under 16 do not need a fishing license if accompanied by a licensed adult, except that paddlefish tags are required for all paddlefish snaggers. $48
Married Couple Season Fishing* $63
3 Day Fishing* $28
10 Day Fishing* $38
-
$48 fishing license
Plus your airfare and car rental and hotel
...
Might looking at $400-$800
.....
Better off just buying it at the store

Your wis DNR also say to catch and release
Responsible catch and release
Catch-and-release fishing has been an important part of recreational fishing for some time, and the practice continues to increase in popularity with many throughout the state, as anglers have come to value many fish species – like trout, bass and muskellunge – more for their sporting qualities than as table fare.

catch and release is an ethical thing and not necessary needing the law to tell you to do so. Learn that style too if you want to impress your local rednecks :2funny:

I don't think it's all about the whitebass. Last time we were there, it was about camping, driving around to search for good fishing spots, catching walleyes and whitebass. We even caught a few Northerns. It was pretty cool. Very different from catching largemouth, stripers, sturgeons and saltwater fishes.

its a nice drive. Last time we drove through Yellowstone, spent a couple of nights camping there then drove through South Dakota to see Mt Rushmore. Wasn’t impressed. But then went to ND from there and had a blast camping there. Then to MN and back home. Great cross country trip. Took about 14 days to do everything.
