Going postal again
It is hard to balance out work vs performance vs a person's livelihood. Our own CEO has his office unmarked. I know where he sits but the guy is taking great measures to help prevent or maybe he's just a nervous wreck or the type of CEO that is humble enough to give the best view of the building to other departments.
Be kind to those around you. It may save your life. O0

Why so many shooting around postal? Is the environment really stress/hostile to work in?

Stress level to the max!
Logistics was part of my background. It's a demanding industry, especially with the current shift to even more online retail. They've implemented more automation but even then it's a human being sorting at the lowest level. It's a nightmare during the holidays. Everyone wants their packages yesterday.

We need to appreciate postal workers. Without them we don't get our mail.

wrongful termination
disgruntled employee
work politics
All are contributors to a stressful working environment.
I was told to let someone on my team go. I find no fault with dude but just because they are downsizing the manpower on my shift, they need to cut one person. I told higher ups to go do the deed instead because I'm not gonna do it myself. The guy has bills and a family to cater to. So they gave him an option to switch shift. I came to work, he was off the schedule. They did not let him go but gave him an ultimatum, one such that he has no choice but to resign.
Once they resign, they have to sign a waiver to give up their rights to sue the company.
Now I am on the edge and on the look out for the guy if we see him on campus. Here's a tip that I picked along the way. Those who threaten will not do it. It is the silent one that we gotta watch out for.

When I was there in the 90s, it wasn't bad and the pay was decent. I worked in the collection unit and did overnight express mail deliveries on Sundays and Holidays when the letter carriers are off. As far as why goes, there's a few bad apples in the USPS like in other fields so shooting happens, unfortunately. .
