I have a feeling he might have lost similar or more on his team too but that’s a nice gain.

Dude doesn't mess around when it comes to sports betting ???:
Astros Loss Ends Mattress Mack’s Run At Historic $35 Million Betting Payout
t was likely a rough night’s sleep for Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, as the super fan once again struck-out with a multi-million dollar bet on his Houston Astros.
What some might call a gambling problem, the Gallery Furniture chain owner jokingly calls a promotional problem.
Jim McIngvale, better known as Mattress Mack, has become somewhat of a legend in sports betting circles, as the mattress store owner has publicly placed a number of seven-figure betting tickets on high profile events. These high-dollar risks do, however, often come with a catch.
McIngvale, always the businessman, regularly turns his lavish gambling ventures into promotional marketing material that also serve to hedge his substantial bets.
Mack last made headlines with his $3.4 million winning bet on last year’s Super Bowl, with full refunds going to all customers who made a purchase more than $3,000 at his store if Tampa Bay cashed his ticket. A similar promotion saw Mack refund more than $13 million to customers following the 2017 Astros’ World Series run.

He is hedging his bet against his insurance so did he really lose?

Not sure but regarding the Bengals bet against the spread, sounds like he collected 1 million dollars ???:
Mattress Mack returns with another seven-figure bet, but this time he targeted the NFL playoffs. Jim McIngvale, a Houston-based furniture store salesman otherwise known as Mattress Mack, bet $1.1 million to win $1 million on the Cincinnati Bengals against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional round.
