I wonder why she didn't speak Thai instead. She's Thai, too.  Her grandmother
was calling from Thailand and not from Hmong country.

There's a good amount of Hmong people living in Thailand so I can see her character's Hmong grandma calling her from there.

No different mixed Hmong and Laotian American citizens receiving a phone call from their Hmong side of the family in Laos.

She spoke Hmong again in the new season.

A lot of folks in the US still don't know what Hmong is so I'm sure this will draw some curiosity... ???

Here's the scene where she speaks in Hmong to her grandma in Thailand. You gotta turn up the volume so you can hear she speaks because someone else screen captured the video had made the volume so low.
