New Jersey Mayor Charged With DUI After Driving Son Home From Day Care
A New Jersey mayor admitted to driving her young son home from day care after drinking on St. Patrick's Day, police said.
Lumberton Township Mayor Gina LaPlaca, 45, was charged Monday with DUI, child endangerment, child neglect and driving with an expired license, according to a police complaint obtained by Newsweek.
A witness provided video footage to police showing a possible intoxicated driver failing to maintain lanes and nearly colliding with a utility pole. Investigators later located the blue 2019 BMW at 6:15 p.m. Monday.
LaPlaca "admitted to drinking and stated that she had recently picked up her son" from day care," the complaint said. An open alcoholic beverage was also found in the BMW, police said. She is scheduled to appear in court next month.
