‘Targets our religion’: Hmong community concerned over Fresno County rooster ordinance
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Fresno County ordinance capping the number of roosters someone can own per property is causing a stir among the local Hmong community.
The ordinance will be read at the next Board of Supervisors meeting on Oct. 7 and, if passed, will be adopted into law within 30 days after that. However, the Hmong community says this new ordinance would threaten their livelihoods.
“We feel like we’re being attacked. We feel like we’re being silenced. We feel like we’re being discriminated against,” a Hmong community member said.
“We feel like this is directed to the community. We feel that this targets our religion,” another Hmong community member said.
Fresno County one step closer to capping number of roosters after ‘unlivable’ complaints
Fresno’s Board of Supervisors is one step away from passing the ‘keeping of roosters’ ordinance – limiting five roosters per property without a permit. But folks at the Fresno Center are against it because they said it goes against their culture.

Please, Hmongies... It's not religion, it's all about cock fighting and gambling. No need to raise roosters and chicken in the city. I know lots of Hmong do cock fighting... I've seen some Hmong men cared more about their cocks(roosters) than their wives.
However, I don't see the reason why cities banned roosters and not dogs... Yeah, rooster crow mostly in the morning but dogs bark all the time. And the whole Fresno County... not just the city of Fresno? That don't make sense at all... I bet not just the Hmong are pissed... Mexican and other would be too, even white chicken farmers (if there are any).

They know its for cockfighting but they know the Hmong don't fight their roosters to the death. No weapons...And no real money is made with the way Asian cockers fight roosters..They have a saying, it's just recycle money. YOu win today, you lose tomorrow, they win their money back next week...etc...s o it's really just entertainment. .
