Aruba is my favorite Caribbean island — here's why I keep returning
One word from Aruba's local language explains why this Caribbean island has my heart and one of the highest rates of repeat visitors in the region
Some Caribbean islands are stunning for a week but quickly become forgettable once you return home. Others, however, leave a lasting impression that's difficult to describe and even harder to forget. Aruba belongs to this second group. I've visited it repeatedly—over a dozen trips during my career as a travel writer—and the best way to explain why I keep coming back is a word locals frequently use for everything from an excellent meal to a close friend to a day so easy that it almost feels unjust.
The word is dushi.
