Slow Internet Connection

For some reason my laptop is the only one in the house that tends to run slow. We have 4 laptops that run on WIFI, everyone's WIFI runs fine, but the one I use tends to connect a little bit slower. Not too slow, but slow enough to irritate a person. I've run to scans to make sure there's no virus, malwares, etc... I don't have too much things saved on my laptop either... Anyone know what else I can do to check or fiddle with?

Mcafee or norton can cause your internet to slow down, disable it and try if it reslove the issue. sometime it can just be certain feature of the program.

yoiur hard drive might be showing some ware too now, run some hard drive tests, and see if u can correct some stuff, like defragging and such

The most common problem I see is that on a home network, there's a conflict with a router being not able to communicate with older and newer signals (wireless-B/G/N) altogether. It always seems to be the newer laptops with wireless-N adapters that run into problem while the older wireless-G signals have less problem. Since all laptops are just a mishmash of parts from all kinds of manufacturers, sometimes a router just doesn't get along with a laptop. Every case is unique.

Try these if it helps:
1. Make sure the wifi password encryption is WPA/WPA2 personal.
2. Keep the WLAN channel on "auto"; 2.4ghz, 802.11 b/g/n.
3. Leave the "Quality of Service" option to default as how it was when you first opened the router.
*These are router options and can be accessed typing in the IP of the router in the internet search bar. The default is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and may require a username and password. By default, the username and password on usually on the bottom of your router.

Regardless, you need to give out more information. Are you using the wifi on the cable/dsl modem? Or is the modem connected to a 3rd-party wifi router and what brand is it? You need to find a person who knows about this stuff and have them come to troubleshoot at your house. Many hardware issues cannot be solved over the phone or online like technical and software issues.
