Sharing photos from the U.S.-Mexico National Park
« on: August 23, 2021, 10:21:09 PM »
I say U.S.-Mexico because folks can easily cross back and forth between Big Bend and Maderas del Carmen. Basically the rock on the left is Mexico and the one on the right is America in the photo I took below. The Rio Grande is pretty much dried up so why it's easy for folks to cross it back and forth between the two countries:

If you don't like crowds, go on a non-holiday weekday:

Due to COVID, the official border crossing in the area is closed:

But there's still Mexicans and their horses and donkeys waiting on the other side to taxi you up to their village/town (Boquillas del Carmen) because it's so easy to cross back and forth now and they need U.S. business even though it's illegal to cross..

Here's the town's description: "While some other Mexican border towns are known for violent crime and cartel problems, you won't find any of that in Boquillas del Carmen. The remoteness of this tiny village makes it perhaps the safest border town in Mexico. Tourism from the US is the only thing keeping this desert town alive.":
