Superman No. 1 becomes most expensive comic book ever at $9.12 million

The discovery of a pristine copy of Superman No. 1 in an attic has set a new record for the most expensive comic book ever sold. This 1939 issue, graded CGC 9.0, sold for $9.12 million, including buyer's premium, at Heritage Auctions on November 20, 2025. The comic was found by three brothers in their late mother's attic, where they discovered stacks of old keepsakes, including early Action Comics and the record-breaking Superman No. 1. The comic's condition is attributed to the Northern California climate, and it is one of only seven known copies with a CGC grade of 6.0 or higher. This sale not only surpasses the previous record set by Action Comics No. 1 but also reflects the strength and trust in the collectibles market.
