I wonder why she didn't speak Thai instead. She's Thai, too.  Her grandmother
was calling from Thailand and not from Hmong country.

There's a good amount of Hmong people living in Thailand so I can see her character's Hmong grandma calling her from there.

No different mixed Hmong and Laotian American citizens receiving a phone call from their Hmong side of the family in Laos.

She spoke Hmong again in the new season.

A lot of folks in the US still don't know what Hmong is so I'm sure this will draw some curiosity... ???
