that's a sunfish.  those sucker get big

I saw a baby one in monteray at the pier once.  It was on its sides and flopping on top of the water.  I was fishing at the time and threw my bait and lure at it but it doesn't seem to bite.  Thought it was injured or something

but after doing my research, sunfish is called a sunfish for a reason.  It goes to the top of the water to catch some sun rays.
