Just got the HTC EVO 4G
« on: June 04, 2010, 03:53:07 PM »
It's my first smart phone, so don't ask me how it compares to iPhones.  The screen is pretty big.  I'm really liking it so far.

Probably.  Otherwise, you wouldn't have heard it.

It comes with a USB charger & a power adapter you can plug the USB cord into.  I also got a car charger as well.

the good smartphones tend to not have the greatest battery life. but thats cuz they offer soo much and always connected to the net. the better the phone the more ur gonna use it so battery life is gonna suck reguardless.

The battery life compare to the iphone is terrible.  If it were closer to the iphone, it would be good enough.  Don't you agree?

Plus an extra $10 dollar a month added because of the 4g from what I was told when I was going to pre-order one.

Evo 4G Has 23 % more battery power than the iPhone 3GS but Android OS can be killer on battery especially if u don't download a task killer. I recommend Android Task Killer app. Plus it's free. Ratings on the Evo 4G's battery haven been low. Battery life is always the achilles heel of our top smartphone. My iPhone 3GS has been good but as much as I use it I'm always charging. But I have no complaints. I know it's unrealistic to expect a smartphone to last a 8 hour shift lol.

This is true, a lot of people aren't happy with it, but it does mean you have real "unlimited" and not capped unlimited data like everyone else.

it's not cap but Sprint has said they will restict users who they feel are using a lot of data. And it sucks to have to pay for 4G when it's less available than 3G. Not to mention Sprint's unlimited is capped at 5 GB.

I would love to get an Evo. So sad they didn't have this when I first signed on. I used to think that all phones were the same, but after having my Blackberry for a while, I am changing my mind about phones. Now, I can get rid of all my other services and just use Sprint for everything. I can see myself paying so much less for everything. I don't mind paying $10 a month more when I am only paying almost $40 for their everything plan. It pays have a family plan with sprint. I hate having to wait until January of next year to upgrade my phone, but I guess it will work because my comcast internet will expire then also.

Smartphones are called Smartphones for a reason. u can do everything with the phone. if i'm not by my computer which is a lot cuz i'm always out and about i have my iPhone 3GS by my side to access the internet, ipod, movies (even connect to TV), Email, downloading, and it's a phone and being with AT&T i can still get and make calls while using the internet. if i'm somewhere where people don't have internet but have a computer i can connect my iPhone to the computer and use my internet on the computer or if people need WiFi i can use my iPhone as a wireless router.

Business people love smartphones too and it's even more useful for them.

Evo 4G with horrible battery life... can't imagine how that would be after overclocking.

to me still the best Android phone out there. so how's the video chatting?

for mobile phones especially overclocking drains the battery fast and puts stress on your CPU, which in effect could shorten the life of your phone, or even worse brick it. the Evo 4G has a small battery too which doesn't help the battery life. Sprint was pushing the Evo 4G and their WiMax 4G. but that's how they work, they did that with the Palm Pre and got no where.

yea the comparisons i saw video chat on the Evo 4G didn't look as nice as the iPhone 4. i'm sure just like the iPhone 4 after some time people will tweak them so u can use video chat on whatever. i can already do video streams from my iPhone 3GS on 3G. the iPhone 4 can only video chat on wifi but that'll easily be fixed as soon as it's released. but video chat is going thru data so yea not many folks gonna have a Qik, Skype, or Fringe account. i have myself have all 3 lol. more phones released the mroe users will have them. but then again on the iPhone all 3of those apps are popular.

oh yeah i read that you dont need a task manager for android. It already does a good job accumulating ram for usage and preserving battery life. I'm running froyo on my droid with light to medium usage i get a day and half worth of usage.

it's recommended thing for Android OS especially if ur not on 2.2. it's so needed that there's soo man different task killers in the Android Market.

lol that imgage looks like the same one i used in the other thread lol

I'm pretty new to Android, and yes, supposedly they have great memory management that you wouldn't need a task manager... with that said, I'm too used to Windows Mobile that when I don't see an Exit button on most apps, I automatically think "omg, it's gonna be running forever in the background..." I still reboot it every once in a while just in case... yeah yeah, I know, windows mobile and windows in general made me paranoid.

the same applies to Android. after u downloaded Android Task Killer you'll see the list and if ur a heavy user that list could be long. but 2.2 includes a built-in feature that displays running services and allows you to stop them.
