Nephew got his 1st paycheck, disappointed so I educated him on social security

..withheld, taxes and how it's calculated. He's disappointed because the net pay is so much smaller than he expected. Keep in mind, he's only 15 and has a good head on his shoulders. He's trying to earn and save up to buy a car on his own  .

My nephew: "Why are they taking social security out when I'm not even close to retirement yet?"

Me: "The social security withheld on your check stub is not for your retirement but rather it's for the current crop of retirees."

Good news is, he's still focus on his goal, buying a car on his own without his parents' help..which I'm so proud of him for because that's how it is in our family.. :

SS has salary cap of $137,700 single filer
meaning you only get tax up to $137,700 if you are single
that is $8,537.4 per year
so if you make $5 million... you only get tax $8,537.4 in SS!!!!!

NOPE, WRONG (again), and I can prove it like how I proved you WRONG that time when you issued the "nobody here but you" challenge..
