I still remember during COVID, EBT recipients got an increase AS IF THEY WOULD BE EATING MORE just because it was COVID.

Some families actually got $1000-2000 increase per month to what they were already receiving.

In addition, Hunger Task Force set up mobile trucks at schools, non-profits, etc. too, so these families were also going there for food. LOTS OF FOOD. Like where they load up 5 gallons of milk, 20 lb bag of potatoes, 10 lbs of grapes, etc. into your RAV 4 because they have to get rid of it.
These families are very greedy, too, because even though they would NEVER eat up all that food within the month, they wouldn't share it with relatives who aren't eligible for EBT. I get it, you're not suppose to but seeing that these folks are already corrupt anyways, you'd think they would share. After all, many of them get sad when their working relatives don't gift them things.

Anyways, I remember shopping at a grocery store and there was a young Hmong wife, probably a mos ab, who had two full carts of food. She had all the good stuff like family-size Nestle Drumstick ice cream, beef ribs, Tide laundry detergent, etc. And more than one pack, too. She was obviously trying to use up all the funds before the month was over. And she wasn't the only one. Lots of black and brown people had their carts full of this stuff, too.
It had actually created a shortage in the grocery store. And do you think these consumers were going to buy an extra box of the good ice cream to share with nieces and nephews? Do you think they grabbed an extra pack of beef ribs to gift to a relative who isn't eligible for EBT?
OF COURSE NOT.
Low-income people are some of the greediest folks I know whenever they come into abundance. They hoard it all to themselves knowing that they may not even use all of it.
