Gov. Newsom proposes 'asset test' for low-income and disabled Medi-Cal applicants. What does that mean?

Millions of Californians who rely on Medi-Cal and In-Home Supportive Services could lose eligibility under a proposal requiring recipients to prove their assets total less than $2,000.

Gov. Gavin Newsom's recent revised budget proposal highlighted the steep increase in funding associated with Medi-Cal between the 2014-15 fiscal year, when costs were $17.1 billion, and 2024-25, when they hit $37.6 billion.

The dollar amount needed to fund the program is expected to continue rising over the next several years. The cost has been driven up by a surge in enrollment, pharmacy costs and higher managed-care costs, according to the budget proposal.

I somewhat agree this needs to happen. I don't have any of the above but there are times I wished I qualified lol. I see many abusing the system like IHSS. Yet, I feel for those that actually need it the most because some folks do work hard yet fell on hard times and or not getting paid enough. It would be very sad to see many not qualifying simply because they have a small asset over $2000.

That's true... people who are honest and need these program never get them but the con-artist have them.

I thought CA is a middle-class/poor loving state? Hmmm... can't all those rich/wealthy Lefties/Demmies celebs, business owners fund these programs? I mean, they claimed they love and support the little Joes/Janes, right?

"negative" behaviors by FRAUDs don't help "legit" folks who actually need those benefits and services:

Six individuals, including a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) employee, have been charged in connection with an alleged sprawling fraud and bribery scheme that generated over $66 million in unauthorized transactions under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps
