The case of former MLB pitcher Dan Serafini involved a tragic home invasion murder in Lake Tahoe. On June 5, 2021, Serafini entered the home of his father-in-law, Robert Spohr, and his wife, Wendy Wood, and shot them. Spohr died at the scene, while Wood survived but later died by suicide in 2023. The investigation revealed that Serafini had been waiting for the couple to return before the attack. The case was resolved with Serafini being convicted of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and first-degree burglary. The prosecution argued that the attack was financially motivated, with Serafini having a history of threatening his in-laws. The case also involved his wife, Erin Spohr, who had given $90,000 to Serafini's wife the day of the shootings.
