Major California city takes drastic action to curb street prostitutionThe pilot program is not the city's first attempt to curb its infamous hub of sex worker activity.Officials in the Northern California city of Oakland are reviving an unconventional pilot program to ward off sex workers on a prominent boulevard well known for being a prostitution hotspot. The initiative would install temporary barricades along side streets that branch from International Boulevard, a zone known as "The Blade." City councilmember Charlene Wang said the water-filled barriers will dissuade sex workers and Johns from making transactions on the avenue, which is located near a health clinic and elementary school.
