Wait it not religion but culture?

If you don't do any of the mejkoob. Where is the culture in that.?

According to you. It has to be the other than. Religion since it not culture

Common sense and reason

Most don't use Mejkoob... they use the church elder or a pastor instead. They don't ask for payment to grandma, grandpa, or older sister if she's still single, etc. Just the bride price and the dinner.
Now, not all those that claim to be Christian are doing this... majority are still involved with Mejkoob and all the other stuff. But the few that I've been too don't do the old way anymore.

When I give my future daughter away... I'll ask for the bride price ( to see if the other family is serious enough to want my daughter) but I'll give it right back to the couple and more from me. I'll probably end up giving them more than the bride price when it's all said and done.
