How to stay in another country longer than visa allowed?
« on: September 18, 2016, 11:22:58 PM »
I think most visas allowed you to extend for two months in another country.  What if you want to stay even longer than that, what's the trick or is there a way to do that?

Example, traveling to Laos or Thailand.

Example, traveling to Laos or Thailand.

For Thailand, you can get a 30 day landing visa, which means you don't need to apply for a visa before you get to Thailand. If you want to stay longer, you can get a 30 day extension visa at one of the immigration offices. Another option is leaving the country for a few days and then re-entering. However, I highly recommend reading the link below for the warning the government has for such things.

As for Laos, you should read the link below. When I went to Laos years ago, I went over the Friendship Bridge from Thailand. We filled out forms and had to pay cash for our visas. I think we received a 30 day visa as well.

I don't recommend overstaying your visa illegally. It looks like both countries fine you by the day if you overstay.

Again, if you want to extend your stay, you should just go to an immigration office and check with them. Keep in mind that a lot of international flights do not allow you to board without showing you have an onward flight (from that country). Another option is going to the local embassy and seeing if you can get a longer visa before you go to Thailand or Laos. I use Thailand and Laos as the example since those were the ones you gave.

looks like for Laos 90 days is the most you can extend for...and you have to be born in Laos to do that.
