I agree. Whether President Trump wants to back track his tariffs, he has already piss off the Chinese; damage has already been done. The Chinese should just follow thru with their retaliation, not doing so makes them look weak. And like you say, who cares if we run into another recession... Hopefully it serves as a learning lesson to not play protectionism when the world knows the US preaches FREE TRADE & FAIRNESS.

Do you realize that this war is just a fight between two egos? Businesses in both countries are suffering big time and they don't want this to keep up.

can you count up to $530 billion?  yes, that is how much US is importing goods from China.  when we import this much goods, it makes our (american) products looks like crap and expensive...wh en actually "made in china" products are the real cheap things (poor quality).  with no tariffs imposed, it will make america more dependent on china products, hence the chinaman has been, is and will be making billions with little to no taxation.  we are china's biggest consumer, when we impose tariffs, it will hurt their economy more than ours, that is why you see china wanting to get back to talks and seek a resolution.

uhhh.. no.  appealing to ignorant people's emotions has nothing to do with reality of global economies and benefits of free trade.  People believing in these types of arguments are why economists are worried about a recession.

Look beyond the propaganda, please.

Do you know which country many Trump products are made in? Do you know which country just gave Ivanka 21 patents for goods? If this was strictly about trade deficits then what about Mexico, India and Vietnam as a viable alternative? This bullsh*t is nothing more than a show for his voter base. It's a farce. Trump isn't the business genius some people think he is.

yax,

imma have to disagree with you and go with ZDN on this one
china have really unfair trade practice

for example:  they put a 25% tax on cars going to china
where the US put 2.5% tax on cars going to the USA

that's not even fair

should both be 10% (something like that, equal)

the recession talk is all wall street bullsh!t talk.  they're talking themselves into believing that it will happen, it is actually the opposite...our economy is doing great but the leftist narrative is trying to scare people, a democratic tactic into the 2020 presidential race...it's not going to happen anytime soon, not while trump is still president.

Look beyond the propaganda, please.

one should look carefully, china has one propaganda and that is to rule the world.  they have bought out some african countries, built railways across countries and continents, bought and built ports all over the world, strategically building islands in the south china sea and have a buffet in every city in america!  i guarantee you, every house hold in america has something "made in china"...china has made every country dependent on their products, due to low cost and cheap labor.  what's more concerning is the amount of money they're making with very little taxation.  putting tariff on china means, domestic products will have equal share in the market, better built quality, promoting more demands, increasing domestic jobs and companies, which in turn will raise our economy.  if trump was smart, he would ban all farming and agricultural sales to china...chines e people would be force to eat their own poisonous food...they would cave in so fast.

I'm not disagreeing with you entirely. My point is how can you talk minimizing dependency on China for goods on one hand and openly sell products made in China on the other? Take off the blinders. IF Trump wants to champion this cause, STOP having China make your goods. Otherwise, it's a farce for fools.

that is what tariffs are for...we're making chinese products (imports) expensive, comparable to domestic's.  it's going to steer china's marketing strategy when americans rather buy their own products.  it could bankrupt manufacturing companies due to lack of sales and high taxes...and we're talking about billions of dollars.  from an economic stand point it is a good marketing strategy on Trump...china's dependency on US market is higher...they will eventually come to the table and find a resolution.

You mean like the farmers and their subsidies? Look at how it's working for them. Welfare only sounds bad if and when people want it to it appears.

China has a bigger economy and has more goods to export. Their manufacturing cost is less.

The US has less to export and their manufacturing cost is much higher.

Tariffs aren't going to solve this problem. We need China more than China needs us. Unless you're talking about debt. They hold $1.2 trillion dollars of it and could definitely use it in an all out trade war.
