Xtr, if I’m not mistaken, is the top of the line. Good product even at economical level.

Also seems like Shimano does ask a lot for it's prices.   Almost like one is just paying for the name badge.

The reason why I use Shimano reels is that they have historically made more sense if one wants to do self maintenance.  I have not open any of my new reels for any maintenance.  So I'm sure the newer ones have more parts and less room to work on them.

Shimano holds very tight tolerances using very strong and lightweight materials.  This means high durability and quality.

I was told by an expert: no lubricant is ever needed.

I've had a similar experience in both bikes and whole-boiled Hmong chickens.

One time I was looking for a bike and didn't go to Walmart but to an actual bike shop. The minuted I got inside, I saw price tags in the 5K to 15K range.

I stepped out immediately.

I went to a Hmong flea market to see if I could get some lunch one time. I saw some whole-boiled chickens on the counter of a deli. I touched the container and was turning the chicken around to look at it to see if it might be clean enough. I asked how much one was. The vendor's lady said, "kaum peb duas os."

I shook  my hand off the container and turned to something else.

I think I made this comparison before on here.  When you guy top of the line Shimano gears you are paying for a particular level of performance.  When winning can come down to 1%-2%, don't let money stop you from buying the edge.  Shimano top of the line professional gear are designed for that particular high-end market where people will shell out 10x or more to get their desire performance.

I don't see anyone complaining about a Lexus IS-F for 70k when a Kia is 10k or a use 10-year-old corolla is 5k.  Market segmentation is what this is called.
