We  Hmong need to make our weddings related to marriages and not related to politics and vengeance.

We hmong have a wedding tradition like all cultures but since living in the US, we sort of adopted the western cultures too.  So you see a mixed of both for some today or some actually skipped the Hmong traditional marriage ceremony and just go w/ the western.  Back in my days, you see more of the traditional Hmong weddings.

How have people brought politics and vengeance into the  Western weddings?

Let's not complicate things and just answer the question... ;D ;D ;D ;D

If you want to complicate, let's move this to the debate forum ;D ;D ;D ;D

So will it be traditional, american, or both ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think that a person marries only once. Why do two weddings to marry twice if to just the same person?

I had a traditional wedding and an American wedding.  I only wanted the American but when you are a Hmong woman and you marry a Hmong man with a traditional family, I guess you have to do a traditional wedding too.  I guess it's nice to experience it.  It's part of our culture.  Going forward though, hopefully they will do away with the politics and the drinking aspects of the Hmong wedding.  Keep the dressing up in cultural clothing, food, and blessing/advice giving parts.  O0

You can share your wish and sometimes wish can turn into reality.

Just American for me and that means that my wife's parents paid for wedding and reception. I only paid for the rings and tuxedo rental. The guests paid for our Honeymoon.  O0

Is that a cultural tradition where the bride's family paid for the wedding and reception?  Some cultures (wedding) are opposite of our hmong wedding traditions where the guy pay for most everything..

We had an American style wedding so traditionally, the bride and her family are responsible for paying for all wedding planning expenses, the bride's attire, all floral arrangements, transportation on the wedding day, photo and video fees, travel and lodgings for the officiant if he comes from out of town, lodging for the bridesmaids.
