..One of my ex-girlfriends and her family have this superstition that they strongly believe in: If they leave the house or another place and forgot something, they don't return to retrieve it because it's bad luck..

Did you share w/ her about ours, "don't point at the moon, back of your ear will get cut."  OR "don't pack rice w/ sour fruits/fruits, you'll find a snake in your basket."==> back in Laos, they carry a back basket.

I let her know that the Hmong have a similar one but we turn around when it happens except me of course because I don't believe in it:

"If you see a snake in your path, turn around and go back"..

1. don't whistle at night or else evil spirit come to you
2. don't pick up anything along the path and take it home with you
