Stuff they don't teach you in school. These younger generational folks be thinking that they will be young and healthy forever and will be like this when they are over the retirement age. Lets consider something here.
Consider the going rate for social security is $900 a month. Keeping everything constant.
If you get $900 a month, how much is rent? Lets say you living in the low standard of living city and rent is $600 a month, that'll leave you with $300 for everything else. Can you live like this after you are over the age of 65 and social security is your only source of income? Perhaps yes for your senior citizens right now who have not saved up for retirement but that is no way to live, on the strictest budget. Renting to them millenniums make sense now because their monthly budget is not $900 a month. Even flipping burgers will pay you more than that per month.
Now if they want to live on one source of income after retirement, they still can. They will need to find a way to get free housing or have that house all payed for. With $900 check per month, that's $900 to spend is about $29 per day. It sure beats that $300 a month model now doesn't it?
Now this model is if you are by yourself. If you and your spouse both get a check then rent eats up one check while the other check is what you are going to live upon but for two.
Now to throw a curve ball, to further support you millennium, start having children and a lot of them and hoping that your relationship with them are still strong so that you may live out your retired life under their household and they don't charge you rent.
Millennium and still want your independency? You have the most of your life to work on getting that home and get it payed for by retirement. You also gotta have money set a side because you have property tax to pay for or what if the furnace or the roof needs an upgrade? Lets not talk about emergency funds where your social security check will not be enough to cover them costs.
dayam, I would love to yap more to them millennials cuz it looks like they are the generation that needs a rude awakening.
